Tamtech GB01 buggies

Recommended Posts

Are there any differences in the different Tamtech buggies? E.g is the frog the same as the fox apart from the body and wheels for example

From what I know, there are three different Tamtech GB-chassis variants. The GB-01 (Hornet, Frog, Fox, Desert Gator, Wild Boar, Suzuki Jimny) is 2WD and has front double wishbone suspension. The GB-02 (Buggy Champ) is 2WD, basically the same as GB-01, but with trailing arm suspension at front. The GB-03 (Hotshot) is 4WD and has a front monoshock.

The Tamtech Gear articles on Tamiya.com are showing some of the major and minor differences between the chassis and body variants:

GregM is spot on!

They are quite fun on-road with a brushless motor and some 3Racing oil dampers... once the nubs on the rear tires wear down!

Cheers,

With 12mm hex adapters, the cheap foam tires meant for Minis are perfect.

Thanks for the references, this is great news as I can buy the GB01 chassis kit, and get the fox mini body and gold wheels to have a Tamtech fox to go with my 1/10 Shelfer, excellent

don't forget the yellow dampers! the fox has yellow dampers, and i believe they are still available on tamiyausa.com but only described as part [ ]. get them while the getting's good.

ps- given the simplicity in modifying these, i've managed to pick up several for a lot less than the kit. for instance, the GB-02 buggy champ in my showroom started out as a dilapidated hornet. i'm watching this but i really don't need any more GB-01's so go for it. almost all the parts for these are on tamiyausa.com and they're surprisingly cheap.

There was an ebay seller about 2-3 years ago selling the RTR (without battery) for $64 each!

I bought 5. (2x Hornet, 2x Frog, 1x Fox)... Maybe should have bought more!

I have 1 Hornet, and the Fox left NIB. 2 others are runners, with brushless and oil shocks, and 1 has been destroyed.

I did stock up on wheels/tires/bodysets though.

Great fun little buggies!

Cheers,

Skottoman

Yeah that's nice and inexpensive at present but unfortunately the seller won't ship outside the US

Cheers mate, but unfortunately for me TamiyaUSA also won't ship outside the US apparently, man it's tough for us Aussies, might check out Banzai Hobbys in Japan, see if they've got parts. Thanks anyway, I at least know what I'm looking for
