I'm looking for the motor shown below, specifically with these curved slots in the pinion end of the shell. I'm in the UK and possibly able to collect in the Cheshire area. Thanks.

Is that the motor that was fitted to the original Sand Scorcher?

And the slots locate on two little pins? inside the gearbox casing?. preventing you from using a modern 540can.

Just thought it was a really clear pic, so it maybe helpful to others when choosing a motor for an original model. and it bumps your wanted post 30YrsL8r.

That's my understanding, but it would bear someone confirming.

The screw holes locate on the little pins, while one of the long slots accommodates the longer lug (again, my assumption).

I stole the pic from someone else's post because it was perfect for what I needed :)Thanks for the bump!

The motor with the long slot is the same as the one I had in my original Rough Rider.

I do remember some major butchery when it came to fitting a four slot motor, decided it would be better to 'modify' the motor than the gearbox casing !!

God knows where all the filings went!

I think I can guess where the filings went :) Thanks for the confirmation of the original RR using this motor; I believe both the first RR and first SS had the same "big lug" gearcase.

By either good luck or good judgement (or a bit of both) I now own TWO of the original Sand Scorcher Mabuchi 540 motors (and a vintage 380, which seems TINY).

Now all I have to do is research how to disassemble these "disposable" motors in order to restore them. A third of a century has taken its toll :)
