I was wondering how big are your collections are in numbers? How many cars do you have?Do any of you have 50+ collections or even bordering the 100 mark?Or a little over? What do most of these collections consist of?Nib's,new built,runners,projects--reasons??Some of you guy's are really insane! Can you imagine your collections doubling in a few years time-we'll see collections going towards the 200 mark? Are you in it for the long term?Do you think this hobby will present something new all the time?

There are poeple of which I hear they have 1000 (one-thousand!) cars. When you reach such high numbers, it's mostly a guess on how many you got.

It's also quite difficult what to call a 'car'. I have some complete wrecks laying around which are far from being able to run. I think if you count those I'd reach a number of about 20 cars. Also, most people with such BIG collections (hundreds of cars) don't bother to put them ALL online, so looking at the TC showrooms isn't a very good figure as well.

Most of the cars I own are runners or at least RTR sort of. My Martini Mk.22 Renault will likely never be ran, but all or at least most other cars I have certainly will. If they don't run / can't run they are a project, or they should be considered as parts in extreme cases...

Stil to me the quantity is not really important to me. If I have all the cars I really want or almost all, I am very happy. I think I am sort of in that position now - I think you should always miss something you really want as it gives you something to look out for in the future. Imagine how horrible it would be to have them all, you are finished! It's all about the fun process of aquiring them, if that stops, most of the fun might be gone... Then it's good Tamiya is still around, new cars every time! But to be honest, having 20 TL-01 cars with different bodies isn't interresting... I am not there yet so I don't really know.

I also don't want to own 1000 cars for a similar reason. I can impossibly give them all the care and attention the need and deserve. I can hardly imagine fitting them all in my bedroom either... [|)]

I'm of the same opinion. Originally when I saw this website, I thought it would be cool to have a collection of NIB's like some of the big guys--(ie Darryn). I started collecting. It was nice looking at the cars unbuilt but the cars I had really had no connection to my past. When I got a Hot Shot and restored it, that put a grin on my face. It was nice to have one of my old cars back and it was really nice to be able to re-build it and paint it properly.

I've decided to buy cars that mainly have some meaning to me. I don't recommend buying cars as investments as those cars are already very expensive and tie up alot of cash just sitting around (unless you've got the dough). I bought a beautiful Porche 959 and then went after a NIB body kit, box and instructions. I've got what's considered a real collectors car and I spent quite a bit collecting it. It really doesn't turn my crank--it's a technical wonder and great looking car but it is not part of my past.

My vision is to buy cars that I had or I drooled over as a kid. I'm going to have them as New built or restored as I love looking at them and don't have the patience to keep them in the box. After that, I may go after the same collection but in 'NIB' version. That's my game plan. I'm not in it to top any of the guys in the club (I still have to send my two kids through school!), just have fun and re-connect with a great hobby. As well, I've come to interact with a lot of top notch guys in this hobby/in this club and that has been a bonus as well.

Fazal.

For me its just two at the moment! A classic 959 (fulfills the young dreams I had [:P]) and a PIAA GT2 [}:)] which is my favorite Porsche of all time. As you can tell I am a Porsche fan but I dont think I am going to try to get them all. I think I might wait for a Cayenne to come out on a rerleased XC chassis [;)] or even the new Carrera on a F201 [;)][}:)] (I hope you R&D guys at Tamiya are reading this!!!)

I've not got that many in my collection - 12 or so. They take up enough room in my small office at home.

What I want to know is that if you have a collection of 50 or so - where (& how) do people store them. Wouldn't you also need some sort of insurance to cover them[:0][:0][:0][?]

I probably have too darn many cars. At least that is what my wife would say. My Sand Scorcher, Frog, Fox, Fast attack and RC-10 are the cars I cherished the most back when I was a kid. The problem you find is that there are other really cool cars out there that you didn't know about. This is the reason I wanted the Porsche 935 and Hilux. Then there are cars that are really cool and have a high collector demand. That is the reason I bought my Avante. Really it should be whatever floats your boat.

I've got 7 tamiyas, 3 kyoshos, and 2 others. I dont think I would ever buy a NIB kit and not build it no matter what it was or what it was worth! I pretty much only have what I race or what I like. I do buy things from time to time, that are not totally my cup of tea. Why? because you can trade it for what you really want without having to pay through the nose. I think I have plenty of clodbusters now so I reckon my collection will expand in new directions soon. I want to get another XC, a Lancia Integrale, a Lancia 037 rally and maybe some future new releases from tamiya (XC's please). I do wonder where I am going to store all this stuff but that is of minor importance!

HI!

I like too much of the TAMIYA cars if you don`t have notice that. I really don`t now how mane I have but circa 170-200 cars[:P]. In my work I have little over 100 cars[:D] and I have so much spares that I can easly built many new/ used cars. I don`t have any goals but diffrent kind of SRB projects. At this moment I´m collecting different kind of ASSOCIATED RC-10 like ANDYS, ALLEC/LANE, RPM version and of course the 4wd version. But the main question is wich cars do you want to own.

I know of two people that claim to have every Tamiya kit NIB from 58001 to present (except 238 of course). I have verified first hand that one of them is telling the truth as I just happened to meet him by chance when I was picking up a 1/6th scale gas car I bought. Over time I got to know him and he let me view his collection. He has a standing order at the hobby shop to purchase one of every new electric kit Tamiya produces as soon as it becomes available. For this guy he is not even into R/C at all - he is just continuing on a collection left to him by his Grandfather as an investment and plans to sell it one day in one lot to help fund his retirement. All attempts to pry away his Sand Scorcher so far have been fruitless.

to get an idea of how many cars each member has, check out http://www.tamiyaclub.com/mainshowroom.asp - in the third column you'll see the number of cars the member has. I think the listing is sorted after the most recent update in a showroom, obviously not by the number of cars, but by clicking the next button on the bottom you can easily flip thru all the members.

Member bcollectionid="red"> (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom.asp?id=470) has the highest number of items (cars and parts as these are included in the listing of the showroom) at a stunning 135id="red">!!! If I'm not mistakin' Japan based Spiceid="red"> is in a hefty second, with 121id="red">!!!

I only swept thru the list, so I migh have missed someone out! [xx(]

Give up my ace in the hole? Nahh. Already said too much. Let's just say I've been there, he has every phone number and email address of mine, and gets a christmas card from me every year. All in the name of one day having right of first refusal.

I have 7 Tamiya vehicles in my present collection with 4 more on the way. Like Fazal I cannot keep my desire to build a kit in check so it is likely I will never have NIB's. At least not for very long anyhow.

I used to race 1:1 buggies and am looking to collect as many of the first ones (numbers lower than 200) as I can. I also have a couple of touring cars I will be racing this year at our local track. I will eventually get a Clod and one of the 14th scale big rigs. But deep in my heart I *want* a bruiser/Hilux/Mountaineer! [:P]

Cheers,

I know one collector from [:(!] who have NIB, BUILT and one wich he used to drive very little. He said to me that he likes to built these TAMIYA kits and thats it. If I didn`t understand him wrong so he have atlest first 100.

I guess I am always going to get comments on my collection - being good or bad [:D]

What I have to say is that I have been IN this hobby in a big way ALL my life - that is from the age of 7.....yep - 1977 was when I started!!

I dont collect what I dont like - I have no "investment" peices - I dont buy what I dont care for. I get what appealed to me as a kid, what I eveied when I was racing that other drivers had - the whole thing is a passion and hobby for me. The hobby has been with me my entire life - not just a passing phase.[:)]

I have a large number of cars in total - all could be made to work in less than a days notice if I had the urge......of course if I had to build it - then it might take longer !! [;)]

I dont only collect Tamiya - as for me - they were not a huge part of my racing life - sure I raced a few in the earlier days - but my real passions are with other manufacturers like Kyosho and AYK, Hirobo, RCL, Schumacher, associated, losi etc etc etc.

Having said that - I loved looking through the Tamiya catalouges all those years ago - and dreaming of just having fun with some of them - instead of just constant racing racing racing.......maybe thats why I collected some Tamiya's now.

I dont think I will be able to stop collecting - as it has a hook in me now.......however I will say that I have just about all the Tamiya's I want / wanted - so I wont be getting that many more of them.....as now they (the more modern ones after 200)are just plain uninspiring for me in most cases....

Cheers

i have a few myself

super sabre

bigwig

blackfoot

stadium raider

wild dagger

wild willy 2

blitzer beetle NIB (which i will build when i get the time)

monster beetle QD

the super sabre and bigwig are restro jobbies that i've done, they both look brand new, and as only been run indoors for a few seconds to make sure they are working.

all the others except the blitzer (obivously) gets taken out every saturday and sunday when it dont rain.

I have between 20 and 25 (including non-tamiya). Most are in running condition (after adding ESC and receiver), the rest could be made to run within a day or so. I have no NIB.

The car I want the most now is a Jeep Wrangler. My favorites in my collection are my CRV, Hummer and VW (old) Beetle.

At this point I'm considering selling a few that I really don't like, but I'll wait until summer to see if they start to grow on me when I drive them again. It too wet/snowy/dirty outside now to drive much of anything now.

i have 2! a Baja Champ and Astute, i can't afford no more lol! and it took me about 12 years from first getting a 1988 Tamiya catalogue (it was a few years old at the time) and gazing at the RC models to finally get one last year. Man! how i used to want a Top Force! and i still do

I have a total of 5!(could be 5.5)

1x Avante 2001 I have had from new - and now replaced virtually all parts with NIB so will eventually become new built! - This is where the extra half a car comes from!

1x Avante - My runner complete with Dynatech 02H + 10T rotor

1x Pugeuot 306 Maxi - My other runner (onroad)

1x F150 Ranger XLT - Now restored - up for sale

1x Sand Scorcher - recently acquired very nearly complete and my next restoration project!

Hi all,

well first I have to agree to some of the others: I owned a NIB Honda CR-V, and couldn't stand the temptation of building it at least. I will never be a NIB-collector.

At this time I have:

1 Bruiser -nearly ready in completion (since 1988 [:I])

1 Bruiser -to be modified Imex G-Hawgs and so on

1 Hilux -to be restored

1 Blazer -restoration in progress

1 Wild Willy -restoration in progress

1 Pajero -restoration in progress (5844)

1 Black Foot -restoration nearly ready (body needs paint, my crucial problem with all my models)

1 King Cab -restoration in progress

1 The Fox -restoration in progress

Those are the old ones. My newer addictions are a Pumpkin, a Clod, a Jugg2, a Honda CR-V, a Wrangler, a Cross-Wrangler,a new-age XR311 and a Hummer. Not to forget some special projects (for example a Suburban-body based on two Clod-shells) And to confess, I commited adultery: I have some specials from Kyosho (4x 1:9 EP/GP) and last but not least my E-MAXX.[B)]

Currently I try to get rid of Fox- and King Cab-parts to get some more space and money[}:)]

Hi all,

I have about 25 give or take, not bad to say i only started the hobby about 5 month ago but i can't get enough of Tamiyas its like some sort of ediction (HELP).

But seriously i really enjoy the hobby and i'm so surprised how freindly the rest of the club members are i've made loads of freinds Volksrod, Blondiniboy, Purplebugsy to name but a few.

So i would like to take this opportunity on thanking Chris on making the TC what it is today.

well , i'd have to say the big nib collections blow me away!!! I really struggled with the few nibs I've had and ended up selling them. I like them made up sitting on a shelf, i basically never run anything. Years of racing has maxed my interest out. I prefer Helis or The likes of The kyosho World champion inferno 1/8th scale offroaders. Hard to beat the speed of these awesome cars. I haven't been collecting that long really I have 100 plus cars and make an effort to load more into my showroom as much as possible. I have made a pact to concentrate on the first 60 car of which I now have 42 of.

I spend nights dreaming of my next score or deals I can do to get the missing cars. Sometimes I even lay awake at night desperately working out how I can get more money to pay for must have auctions I've won. this Hobby is a crazy obsession, in some ways it will be a relief to get all 60 cars under my wing, maybe then I can get some rest. I sumtimes overprice my stuff so much that I have to give myself a slap to bring me back to reality. I think its a Knee-jerk reaction to selling anything at all. Once buyers r familiar with me I improve the trades considerably. I have a group of tc members who use Msn messenger and we all talk and trade freely every night. Anyone wishing to join myself and others my UserId is superju71@hotmail.com.

feel free to add me to your contacts and chat online. I love cheeky ******s who can take a bit of banter. Might see some of you around
