I have seen many new members pop up recently which is great but where are all the names I remember from when I first joined.

Where have they gone?

A few that spring to mind are,....

I know you all have lives outside of TC, but you are missing out on loads of cool threads.

There must be more that I have missed.

I'm interested in this too. I've been around since 2005 but lost access to my screen name and password when the site got hacked. Nothing was done about it so I started up a new screen name (sigh). Some others I recall were TerrySC, rabidmushroom, snakeplissken (who broke the big High-Lift news), Dephcon5 and Mobias.

Some possibliliies:

Some have died or have had health problems

Some took a break to do other things...I did this for a couple years.

Some moved to other message boards

Some changed their names for various reasons

Would be interesting to see what happened with these.

I know shodog is on RC10 Talk but hasn't posted much recently on there.

Loaded replied to the last post like this and is quite active on ebay selling fancy diamonds.

I'm one of the members disappeared for years. I had been out the club and the forum from 2008 to 2011/2012 due economical problems.

Now I'm here again, member from 27/04/2002 02:14:40, but yet with economical problems... dohhh!!!!

I have been around for a long time. Members definately come and go. One thing that I personally saw was with the re-release of the Sand Scorcher a ton of guys seemed to drop off around that time. I don't think that that is a concidence. Before the re-releases if you had a SRB in good condition or bad condition either way I think that you had a lot of status on this site. Everyone that had one were the "lucky ones" IF you didn't have one then you couldn't relate as well sometimes. So with the re-release the romance of owning one kind of died away just like a lot of people's participation on the Tamiyaclub Forum.

Just my thoughts for what its worth.

It would be good to see some of these people come back. In the old days this place was a hum of activity everynight and during the day from Europe To North America and The Far East.

OSR, I think you nailed it.

Fact: Re-releases have killed the vintage nostalgia of this forum, and (wait, hear me out...) replaced it with re-release enthusiasm.

But it is not the same as it was. Once the magic and treasure-hunt culture of finding/building/restoring rare old classic toys was replaced by a tsunami of new kits and spares, things changed. The cars felt less rare and special. Building and collecting them felt less special, and less satisfying.

Not everyone will agree, but the harder something is to achieve, the more satisfying it is when you achieve it. Vintage Tamiyas used to be aspirational. Now a huge number of them are just common.

As the old saying goes (and I've wheeled this out before too): "The only thing worse than not getting what one wants, is getting it."

I used to post a lot more often. But I feel there's way less interest here now for old-time nostalgia threads about the toys we got, or wanted, as kids, and reliving those memories.

Now most of the excitement is about which next, rare Tamiya classic is going to be rehashed, so everybody can buy it next week from Stellamodels for $200, rather than spending months tracking down parts and carefully restoring an original one.

Bah, sorry to rant yet again. It's the reason I made a blog, to spare you guys from my nostalgia fundamentalist sermons :)

Cheers,

H.
