hi folks im trying to fit bearings in to bruiser axles {original} and am having trouble with the bevel shaft,if i fit ballraces 1150 the axle goes all clicky and tight if i fit the standard bushes its OK. am i using the right bearing or do i have to use the bushes, it has done this on both axles

The 1150 ball bearings are slightly thicker than the bushings which can cause the gears to bind.

To get around this when I have restored original Bruisers I removed one of the 3 washers between the driveshaft bevel gear and the closest bearing. Place shimms in place of this washer in order to get a good mesh, trial and error is required for shimming since it depends on the amount of wear on the bevel gears. I used 0.1mm Tamiya shimms for this purpose left over from rebuilding the gearbox.

There was a guy named Dave Engle that sold replacement front and rear axles with bearings, plus other hop-up parts.

Dave's site: http://www.angelfire.com/super2/rcwebpage/pics.html

It was very helpful for the front axles because replacing the stock bushings was difficult due to the axle pins on the end.

I've personally bought from Dave back in 2003 and his front and rear axles are still installed in my Mountaineer today.

And there was a guy named Lee (something, I forget now) that could take your stock Bruiser/Mountaineer tranny and convert it to use all ball bearings.

Lee's site: http://www.thisrocks.freeserve.co.uk/index.htm

It took a lot of work, including using special tools and machining in order to get it done.

I never took the leap to convert my Mountaineer's tranny, so I cannot say anything more about it.

Please note: I have no idea if either of these guys are still around or selling anything.

But nobody ever made a complete kit that converted everything to ball bearings in one shot to my knowledge. You had to know who was making the parts or do it yourself.

As for the front hub slop, I've never seen a kit for that, though I wish it existed. They wobble terribly.

all sorted now, only fitted bearings where i could get easily 9 850 flanged and 3 1150 runs really smooth compared to how it sounded when i first ran it will sit like this for a bit till i can find some shocks
