Live Steam Mad 17 Posted July 4, 2013 These are perfect for SRB's as they sit across the chassis. Need a bit of foam between the battery and the electric box to stop the battery moving around though: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__23134__turnigy_nano_tech_shorty_4200mah_2s2p_65_130c_hardcase_lipo_pack_roar_approved_.html I use this one for my Sand Scorcher / Rough Rider / Ford Ranger XLT ;- http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=35493 (the same one as in this picture) ...LiFe 6.6V, 2100mAh, 2 thick wires with Silicone insulation and NO connector (I soldered on my own Deans). Be aware that there is a similar pack available with thin wires and receiver connector on it that is NOT suitable. I got the one with thick wires from SP models ;- http://www.spmodels.co.uk/p51582/Storm_Li-Fe_6.6V_2S_RX_2100mAh_Storm_O-STLF-2S2100RX/product_info.html ...who still have it in stock, fair price at 16 quid. Make sure it's the one with thick wires on it before ordering (and make sure you have LiFePo4 capable charger). This pack seems to be discontinued (but still available from SP models). I use the Tamiya grey foam for SRB battery box and I cut the foam to size. I liked the reduced voltage compared to Lipo, as I don't want my Scorcher to be extremely fast, I use it with a Keda 3000kV 13T motor (lowest kV figure and highest turn I could find, 380 size rotor, 540 sized can, fits SRB gearbox perfectly), and with a Turnigy 35A car ESC. Not tried running it yet though, only bench tested. I use a HobbyKing HK6C charger and balance charge the pack. I like the peace of mind of using the LiFe instead of Lipo. Lipo's possible thermal runaway (when making a mistake when setting the charger wrong by accident) always has bothered me. Cheers, Alistair G.
richard.tufty 20 Posted July 5, 2013 Has anyone tried the Turnigy nano-tech 4200mah in any old school cars? The price is so good it's almost worth a try. I don't believe any advertised pack measurements. For one they always seem to be generic & differ from site to site (for the same product)... And B, you can always file all the cell-shaped nubs off the bottom of the pack. So long as it fits in the other two directions. BTW: I have an orion 2400 that fits most of my old cars (hotshot & Vanquish). I think it's 20mm tall at most w/o nubs, but I can't remember. Also the intellect 3800/35C is very short and about 20.5mm w/o nubs (22.5 w/ them) and has a stick-pack shape. Keep in mind these are 4mm bullet packs so you typically have to ream two holes through the chassis to plug them in (I did on the Vanquish). The hotshot didn't need any modification. Neither of those packs fits my JRX-T. That truck only wants a side-by-side of nickle cells. Has anyone tried the Turnigy nano-tech 4200mah in any old school cars? I missed this thread when it was first posted, but I can confirm that the Turnigy pack shown here will fit an Avante 2011; which is more than I can say for any of my other Lipos! It fits the Boomerang nicely too.
Live Steam Mad 17 Posted July 9, 2013 This LiFe pack (6.6V) is round and with hard case and with a few washers would appear to be able to fit my Frog, hypothetically (wires exit horizontal with respect to each other by the looks of it) ;- http://www.hyperion-eu.com/products/product/HP-SWF27-3000CP-2S Might try one. Also found this Lipo one with round hard case and 135mm long ;- http://cs-shop.de/Lipo-74V-4500mAh-CS-Factory-Professional-28C-Hardcase Cheers, LSM
ddaenen1 278 Posted July 12, 2013 If you want a Lipo 2S hardcase stickpack that fits all Tamiya models, just go for the RCPlus 7.4v Lipo. That fits all my Tamiya models (including TA01 bathtub which is very tight in space) except for the Avante 2001, but then again, nothing modern fits in that one, even not NiMh. You can find them here http://www.jv-rcstore.com/shop/index.php?item=rc-plus-phyton-plus-car-2s-35c-4000mah-stickpack-hardcase&action=article&group_id=10000044&aid=1142〈=NL but surely also in other stores. Hope that helps
GregM 1109 Posted July 27, 2013 @TEQ86: Would you please measure the length of your NVision battery pack and post the result here?
TEQ86 8 Posted July 27, 2013 I wish I could but I sold it along with my Madcap as it was brushless. I can tell you that it is extremely close in dimensions to a Tamiya 7.2V NiCad/NimH battery. http://nvisionweb.net/electric/en/Batteries/LiPo/Sport-LiPo-4500-45C-74V-2S-Tamiya I checked the website but they have no dimensions listed, so I can only relate my personal use/experience of this battery. A very good battery but I payed $50 AUD for it so a bit pricey compared to Hobbyking stuff but it looks oldschool and fits all the models I mentioned previously (tried on my own cars)
Marv968 1 Posted July 28, 2013 I'll probably be buying one of the NVISION Lipo's soon. I'll post up measurements when I get one.
BangkokBulldog 151 Posted August 1, 2013 Just started using the shorty LiPo's in the Frog as the battery sits along the length of the chassis, which is nice.
