Hey fellas, and Gals has anyone ever tried to take the paint OFF a body? I have heard both that it ruins the body AND that DOT 4 brake fluid works?

Does anyone know about this? I need a new body for my fox (shelf queen) but if something really works I can try that?

Thanks for any help

Mike

Is it the old Tamiya brush on PC paint?

Even though it's methylated spirits clean up when it's wet, it can be easily stripped with mineral turpentine without hurting the lexan. I have done this to a Fox body in the past.

Oh man! Given the forum section this is posted in I thought you'd found some amazing electronic way to strip paint :(

I prefer the good old reliable cellulose thinners and elbow grease method. That way you don't risk melting the body. Works on all the types of acrylic paints I've encountered and is safe on lexan and hard bodies (as long as you don't leave it soaking in it, or it well dissolve the plastic!).

Ok great I will give the Poly Cleaner a try! I haven't seen that before so I'm glad I asked.

I apologize to all if I put this post in the wrong spot. I am Brand New to this forum so I am still trying to find things in here. Please be patience as I have been on other forums before and I know it's frustrating when new ( dumb ) people like me put things in the wrong spot :-)

Thanks again everyone,

Mike

There are many other threads asking for ways to take paint off lexan bodies and no one ever mentionned the Tamiya poly cleaner, I had no idea that stuff existed!

The one thing you'll find on this forum is that people are very helpful , and tolerant . No matter how dumb the question we help . We all started somewhere in the hobby and we all had to learn somehow . Never feel your asking the obvious because we were all be the same point at one time or another .

The Tamiya poly ceaner has been mentioned before, probably in one of my threads where i used a automotive valeting product available in the UK called Autosmart Tardis.

This works well on soem paints, less well on otheres but as i've only used it to strip shells painted by previous owners i can't ascertain whether Tamiya paints are easier than say Fastrax ones.

One things for sure, Tardis certainly smells very much like the Tamiya product, and its about a tenth of the price :D

A couple of threads where i've demonstrated Tardis results..

i have tried both and the tamiya polycarbonate works better but price wise the tardis is more bang for the buck

I ordered 3 of the bottles of Tamiya Poly cleaner off Ebay last night. I will update how it works when I give it a try. Maybe I don't need a new Fox body? Hmmmmm

I did find one over in Europe, probably where most of you are. The gentlemen does not ship over the big pond to the US!!!!! DARN IT :-)I told him I would pay extra for shipping but now luck. I even asked a guy, who I have purchased from before, if he would buy it and I would buy it from him and I would give him an extra $40 for the body and sticker kit. No go.

The search continues........

well like i said LOVE THE FOX man, i have a NIB fox body set i'd be willing to trade along with other stuff for a NIB fox if you can get your hands on another. i'd be willing to base a trade around the body set plus a mint condition shelf queen fox since i now have two plus a runner. or if you're more interested in other NIB kits i have ones i'd be willing to include in the trade. there are a lot of options. think it over and email me if you are interested.
