Can anyone please point me to a tutorial or forum article where you take a Tamiya part which is threaded at each end and you use it at the base of the rear body mounts to strengthen the chassis to stop the chassis flexing in and hopefully preventing the cross member on the rear body mount from breaking?

Blackholesun did a tutorial of how to manufacture a set of rear mount braces on your own:

If I would go for his solution, I would use two threaded rods and four locknuts in place of the four M3x40 screws.

You can also get alloy aftermarket braces to replace the stock plastic G1 part, see this thread for a reference picture:

I got my brace from evilbay in golden colour. :)

Yes, dabigbozz.

There are many reasons to try my suggestion. First, not only the stock G-1 part will survive to rather severe punishment, but also, the top brackets of the stock red chassis, which usually break after repeated rollovers (something that's very common in both, the Monster Beetle and the Black Foot!) will resist the stress of carrying those heavy hardbodies and will stay there in good shape. And best of all, it is a cheap solution 'cause with the aluminum G-1 part (man, those are gorgeous indeed!), you'll only be adding more stress to the top brackets of the red chassis and you'll be eventually spending more hard-earned cash on replacement parts for your RC car which is something I try to AVOID! ;)

Hi,

maybe this might help:

Very clever and simple upgrade by mongoose1983

He used the cross-member bar from a Subaru Brat. This part is threaded on both ends. Fits perfectly.

I have installed this upgrade on both my MB and BF - works really well and doesn't cost the world.

This is it tahnks for pointing out and of course to Mongoose1983 as I puchased a bout 20 of these for all the various ORV chassis's I had and then couldn't find the article. I agree that a aluminium top bracket will potentially cause a lot of problems to a body in a bad rollover. Tahnsk for all the replys

wow erich what a great idea! is the cross-member from the re-re brat the same as the re-re frog? i can't see why not. i have a few from frogs i broke down and just use the MSC plate to mount the ESC whenever i use an ORV chassis.

Actually the alu G-1 bit might cause a lot of problems to your wallet!

Thanks, mate. And don't forget to share some pics of your Beetle sometime! ;)

Hiya Ben! Yep, that's the very same part.

Cheers, pal. ;)

Thanks, Mongoose for the how-to and dabigbozz for the link. Is it part MR7 (shaft 6 x 48 mm) from the rod bag #9400573? If I'm lucky, I may even have a pair of these shafts among my spares. Let's see how they help reinforcing the bodymounts of my Bush Devil with a Monster Beetle body on top and my brother's original Monster Beetle.

Hi GregM, Well, if you bash your cars real hard I can guarantee you'll break anything but not the G-1 or the top brackets of the chassis. Of course, that doesn't apply to any 10metre free fall to concrete! ;)

These are the parts one needs - Jsourbeck on Ebay- he still has quite a few and they are only US$2 for 2
