On this model with the upgraded axles to fit 12 mm hex, the front axles are very prone to snap right where the pin hole is. I've snapped both axles so far and I've had replacements on order through the store it came from for a while now. I was told this morning they have tried 6 times to order them with no luck. In my opinion a part that breaks easily with no replacement part isn't a good thing. I felt you all should know about this if your even considering this model.

It sounds to me like they need to Anneal their pins. Also if there is a sharp corner where it is breaking adding a radius can really make a difference.Dave can you send me a picture of the shaft that is breaking?Mike

The axle is too small for the pin they use and it's poorly manufactured. I found spares on Ebay but I probably won't go that way. In this picture the traxxas is silver, Tamiya is blue and the associated is the two piece one.

hopefully associated have had a lot of broken axles and are testing a new batch prior to dispatch which is holding up your order , or they might claim you are over tightening the wheel nut , when my tc4 was breaking rear uprights just from cornering (i went through 8 pairs in a week or so) they claimed i was abusing the car . never bought another associated ,

hope you get it sorted .

After looking at the trio of axle shafts it all became clear. The Traxxas is too long so it's out. The Tamiya would be good but I kinda had other plans for it. In my batch of Hotshot parts are upright cup drives or parts of them. The cups are gone but the axle is good. When I finish removing what's left of the battered cup I have a time tested axle that once I switch to 5 x 8mm bearings will fit just fine. I won't have to order in parts that most likely will fail anyway. Recycling is a good thing too.

And here I sit with an RC10 Worlds buggy torn apart for cleaning on my workbench... nearly 20 years old and still almost all original. Built like a tank and runs like the wind... oh how the mighty have fallen.

I've been thinking the same thing. I've got a dual sport that's built so much better. It was a nice day out today and I wanted to run it but figured I'd better go get parts first. It kinda got to me that a new 300 dollar truck won't run long enough to run down the first charge on the Lipo.

After looking at the Pic Dave your right. There isnt enough material left between the hole dia and the outside of the pin. Or maybe there is but the material is brittle, which is highly possible.

These would not be hard to make. I will chalk this up as, another part on my ever growing list , of RC car parts i need to try and replicate!

Associated probably has sent their manufacturing overseas like everyone else has. No wonder it's breaking.

I bought the "Factory" inline hex kit for my B4 and those pins you have look like the ones I pulled out. If you need any Dave let me know I can measure mine up and if they are the same I will send them too you. I have no use for mine now

I don't think it's that they sent their parts overseas, it's that Thunder Tiger bought them out, hence everything is manufactured in Asia.

I don't think thier worth making. I replaced them with the axle (less drive cup) from my Hotshot bin of parts. The drive cups were beyond repair but the axles had proven they don't break. I went to a 5 x 8 bearing too.

The bigger bearing will probably be better anyway. Oh well.

When I first saw your post I assumed the shaft was breaking right where the threads meet the "bearing Step" on the shaft. That's why I was thinking a bigger Radius but this was not the case at all :-)

To be honest the shaft itself looks like just plain old Pot Metal or something really cheap. You'll most likely be Way better off the way you went anyway.

I have a CNC shop at my "disposal" and I keep telling myself I want to make some parts! But the machines are always running and I don't want to work on Sunday :-) The first thing I want to make is the set of Optima Wheels Type A. I ordered a set to model on Jan 25th and still haven't seen them!!! Geez I know they are in BFE but man I am not a patience man :-)

My plan is to take the ones I get and measure them up then make a set out of plastic. Plastic is way cheaper to "tinker" around with than Aluminum. Making a Titanium Set would be the best!

My point exactly MTBKY :-)
