I bought one a few weeks ago as I've always been quite intrigued by them.

They never seem to fetch much, but now having got one it feels nice and solid with the majority of the weight is in the middle.

It's also shaft driven 4WD.

So what's wrong with it?

What am I missing?

The instructions are 1999, so is it a future collectable?

My guess is that other models were more exciting and it was over looked.

I'd be really interested in T.C members opinions!

I guess these are like Marmite - love it or hate it . I love it and I've always liked the chassis - I've had some runners ,and it had many variants .I own a nib SR and I bought it to keep nib , a future classic? , I'm not so sure but it will probably become rare as not many people picked them up to keep nib ;)

I'm sure your right, it just seems like a really solid, neat and tidy model.

I'm sure there can only be handful of NIBs out there.

The front of the shell sits too close to the wheels and it catches on turn in.

I've checked the manual and it has the right body posts, but I saw another S.R on eBay with what looked like a different set of posts altogether.

Can you throw any light on it please?

The Tl01 chassis was very popular in its time with many option parts , gears , chassis etc , all could be hopped-up and tuned in some way . The body mounts you speak of are probably from another Tamiya model with similar body mount post types and were adapted to suit . The last TL01 I had was fitted with a modified motor / esc and it was blast to drive - very solid as you say
