I love both cars, and it is still so hard to choose one over the other.

I love the front half of the Champ body, and I think the Rough Rider rear end is unbeatable...

Hey, never underestimate the looks of a Rough Rider! ;)

Put a slim front like a Super Champ together with the nice butt of a Rough Rider in a cup, shake it and serve it fresh...

Just taken some shots of both my Baja Buggy Projects. Hope you like it. Sorry for the many pictures.

HOLY! That's total beauty!!

Btw, may I ask where have you got the slightly tinted window for the Toyota pick-up in the back of those pics? Or is it a mod you did yourself?

I see. Thank you, TamTom, and once again, your custom baja bodies are awesome!

Thanks. I wish Tamiya had made the RR bod this way. I would have 10 of these buggies in my collection.

Its funny how things change. A few years ago before the re-re SRB stuff came out everyone was hot on the Sand Scorcher and Rough Rider. The Super Champ was the ugly step sister left in the attic. Now with the re re of so many Sand Scorcher and rough Riders everyone is looking for something a little different. The Super Champ (for now) is the last untouched frontier SRB model. That is why I think that these are super popular. I have always love the Super Champ. Better steering set-up, stock brass gears, and beefier front suspension pins. I can't wait until the last of the snow melts.

I always liked the Super Champ more than the Sand Scorcher or Rough Rider. I still have no re-re Sand Scorcher and I only have a re-re Rough Rider becuase I wanted to see how accurate Tamiya made the re-re and what have been changed compared to the original release. In my childhood, the Super Champ had impressed me alot when I first saw that buggy in a friends seller. It looked so much from outer space to me with the unusual monoshock suspension and the oil-bottle on the gearbox. I still remember the Super Champ promotion video.... it is one of the best videos. I believe the Super Champ will remain a not re-released SRB.

i agree with TamTam - i've always preferred the Super Champ as well. the reason? because it's weird looking. i like weird stuff, what can i say? but i don't have one b/c they are just too $$ for me at the moment. just like i don't have an original rough rider, just a buggy champ. have had other priorities in my collecting. but over the coming years that may change. i had a bunch of Super Champ parts collected up which i was planning to turn into a nice SC, but i decided to sell it on to someone else. i think when it comes time for me to have one i'll buy a decent finished specimen. the body is so hard to find in good shape that it hardly makes sense to build up a decent chassis without a body. easier and more cost effective to buy it all in one go. unless you are a magician at fixing up bodies. but alas, i may be a magician at eating lots of cereal, but not at fixing antique SRB bodies.

These were vintage shocks. I made this conversion approx. one/two years before the Buggy Champ/Sand Scorcher were re-released. I still have a pair of them in a box. But missing the lower collars.

Btw... I almost have all parts here to build another Super Champ with RR cage... just ordered some parts. Now I need a Super Champ body. I don't want take the body from my original Super Champ.

They really look like Re-re shocks how the top aluminum body is one piece??? Hmmm? I like the idea of this set-up . Not having to cut the body is a good thing!

Wow  How it should of looked!,

Great work - do you have any photos of how you made the new (better looking) side pods?

I didn't do this body by myself. At the time this was made, I never touched styeren before. Now I would dare to do it. I will do such a body soon (if I have enough time). It is all made by sterene and should not be so difficult in general. Just add one thin layer by the other and sand it down to the required shape.

By the way, are you customizing Rough Rider buggies only or do you have any intentions into trying to customize some other models?

TamTom... I want your body...

UUUUUUUUUGH UM...

What I meant was, I appreciate the craftsman ship and time that was put into those Super Champ/Rough Rider bodies. Would it cost and arm AND a leg for one to be commissioned, or just an arm OR a leg?

Mine would be the Superchamp hands down.. The funco look body is nicely made i wonder how hard is it make some of those.. :-)

Nice Srb's Mongoose!!

No, it only cost one kidney. LOL

Well, I still have a Buggy Champ body here which I wanted to modify anyway. When time allowes, I can modify this too and see how long it may take to do several bodies.

Cheers Thomas

Sorry to hijack this thread. But I have some update on the red Funco Buggy and I took a sample picture with a Super Champ body on the RR chassis.

I changed the standard 2mm hex screws by 2mm scale screws from RC4WD and I put super scale RC4WD shocks on it instead of Tamiya shocks. They look better I find.

Tamtom, that blue belray is gorgeous, those rear wheels look so fitting!

The Blue Rough Rider is my fav of the SRB's. I've seen so many nice versions in the showrooms and on video's like tamiya101's that I just prefer it to any of the others. For me it beats the scorcher and super champ hands down
