Good luck to them, nice to see another shop and one with some facilities too. Much as I like modelsports website and huge range of stuff, their shop is a real disappointment.

The owner is a top chap. He has a few of us buzzing about the new store. I'll be paying a visit asap after it opens. :)

Thats right by my folks home, it'll be great to go have a look see, a decent walk in store is much needed these days, having demo tracks, great idea. Hope it all works out well for them, fingers crossed they will carry a wide spectrum of brands, and support the basher and racer alike.

we have good hobby shops here in the US? uh, if so i've never been to any! i know there are 1 or 2 in NJ i want to visit, but i don't think they're huge R/C palaces or anything. i buy everything - everything - online. closest decent tamiya-stocking LHS is about 1hr away drive.

good news , will be keeping an eye open for them ,

hope they keep the overheads down and the prices down too , its gonna be hard work for them but, the UK NEEDS a good hobby shop that is willing to be as good as they claim, modelsport is OK but a quick look at their listings and so much of it is out of stock ,

with hobby king moving into the UK and aiming more and more at the rc car scene and its already well established flight products, Radshape will have to consider carefully where their target market is and what that market actually wants and needs from a hobby shop,

very best of luck and wishing every success to them :)

I too wish them luck, big risk though given the current state high street retail. Having said that I know of one hobby shop that focuses on flying and in times of recession they seems to flourish, I can only assume its because people will always find a way of funding their hobby.

The trick will be finding a happy medium with regards to how many brands they will stock. Not enough and they will lose out to brand loyal customers who want something they don't stock or people that have their hearts set on something. Too many and they will be limited as to how many spares/hop ups they can stock for each brand.

I agree with comment about modelsport, great website and online retailer but the shop is disappointing. Also prices waaay to high to compete with tamico/modellbau not to mention Far East!

i've watched Radshape grow over the past few years . Their business plan looks to be very sound . Firstly custom made high quality alloy upgrades sold online . Then they made the move into selling kits and RTR in addition to their own products . Having built a good customer base the next logical step is to open a retail store . I would imagine that they have done their costings and turn over projections carefully and keept the overheads to a minimum . If you can run a store in these cost consious times and ride out the recession then the future is going to be assured . All the best to them as their the kind of forward thinking business our hobby - and economy - needs .

When's it due to open, anyone know?

From their FB announcement, https://www.facebook...216862085002927

After what has seemed an age and undoubtedly raised the questions of are they or aren’t they, I can now finally announce that we have secured a new premises and have the keys for what will be the best RC Superstore in the UK if not Europe.

The new venue will be in Minworth, near Birmingham.

There are a lot of late nights and long weekends ahead to get the store structured exactly how it should be and with the support of my current team, and some newly recruited members, I envisage it will take up to 2 months to complete.

We should however be fully operational within a month but as some people are aware that there will be tracks inside for demonstration, which I can confirm, these will be the reasons that will take the extra time to construct.

There will be three track zones which will cover the majority of the hobby but sadly there will be no running of Nitro or Petrol engines indoors, however we will be selling and supporting this area of the hobby.

There are still some surprises I would like to keep secret at this stage but I am fully committed to the challenges ahead.

We will of course continue developing and manufacturing our own products at our main site in Aston, Birmingham with scope to have a small manufacturing/assembly area to showcase and educate anyone interested whilst in the store.

I’d like to thank you all for your past support, knowledge and advice and hope that the future is exciting and prosperous for us all. If anyone would like any more info then please direct your enquiries to me.

Best regards and happy RC’ing

What a great set-up - just shows you don't need a big back yard or race track outside a shop to give customers a feel for some of your products.

Now THAT is a great idea.

To me its a no brainer . They support the site. In return we can support them by bringing potential customers to their venue . Has to be a win / win .
