I thought axial scx10 was good, but the twin hammer seems to be even better. What has Tamiya done? I see a twin hammer hidding in my closet, than a rere bruiser. My loyality towards Tamiya has its limits.

I think the twin hammer is sick! No need to feel bad, if there's nothing to fill the need from Tamiya, then ya gotta do what you gotta do.

Exactly.

The TH looks good, I hear can crawl with the rest and run with the best. Minor issue is the number of screws need to be removed before the body can come off (not as bad as the axial) and comes with a small battery, and is a RTR. But comes with everything is included, and I mean everying like batteries for the radio and some tools.

Whoever designed the TH gave it some thoughts and cater to what buyers wants and the price is not unreasonable.

For those TC members that have a TH, look forward to hear what you have to say about it such as durability, unless one drove it off a 50ft cliff.

Where did this come from? I just had to google as I wasnt aware about it until now... WOW! Think this could be my next drool over car :D I like it a lot, more so than the Axial Exo and would suit my trail/crawling better for a lot less money. £284 completely RTR in the UK... you even get TX batteries! Driver could do with a new head and I'd probably cut off that weird rear tude extension thing. Pull the rear bars in over the wheels and fit the spare on the sloping rear cage. The only thing I wonder about is the battery position. Seems a little high and to the rear to me but I guess there isnt anywhere else to cram it in.

Looks like I need to start saving

Edit:

Quick mock up of how Id mod the rear cage & spare wheel.

Ooooh I like that!

thats what i said, its like an 8th scale baja , but, it was this that stopped me in my tracks ,

j1-glamis-diff_zps3d64d3ca.jpg

now, that is a clever diff , viscose LSD or torque vectoring diff as vaterra call it , a complex oil filled diff but one that truly gives max slip at low speeds and almost locks at high speed :)

I just searched the buggy, and it's sick. I always get worried about overly complex mechs in RCs. I'm curious hw they'll hold up. I'd be good with a fully locked diff.

I hope they come out with a kit for both the T. H. And Glamis. I'd rather wait and pick up one used than buy a RTR.

I keep imagining hooking a tree root or the corner of a big rock and ripping the rear axle out of the Twin Hammers. Some sort of skid plate on the bottom would be nice...

Yeah but the more **** you cover up, the worse it'll do on the light crawling its supposed to be built for.

its just an oil filled geared diff but rather than the over simplified units all other companies are using that rely on a simple shim washer behind the sun gears that allow oil to get pushed out and thus loses locking effect and increasing wear, this one has vented plates (like a wet clutch in a real car) that allow the viscose fluid to flow behind the gears which gives a damping effect , its this fluid being compressed in the vents that supplies the variable lock effect , active diff action is the end result , super simple and actually more robust and longer lasting than any of the other oil filled geared diffs on the market at the moment due to the reduced surface contact , win win situation :D .

ths diff alone suggests that these guys are serious about what they are producing , its a shame they are only RTR but a look at the exploded diagrams shows lots of clever ,well thought out design. :)

JANG has a video up of the Twin Hammers running... The one odd thing that caught my attention was in a few places in the video the front right tire lifts off the ground kind of unnaturally. I'm guessing this is because of the solid rear axle and prop shaft arrangement and related torque twist like on a Wheely King or other solid axle truck. Otherwise it's a nice looking truck and even the tires seem to work pretty well.

I havn't seem it at the LHS, which is a good thing as I cannot even buy it even if i should not buy it but need to have it due to lack of will with no place to hide it from the Mrs. I can just picture the hammer running and jumping over sand dunes under a big blue sky. This is a vacation for the mind.

My LHS has the Vaterra street Camaros and the 1/14 scale rally and SC cars, but not the TH yet. The overall quality of these cars is pretty impressive...very scale bodies and quality materials.

I talked to a guy at the Intermodellbau in Dortmund yesterday. He simply said 'the Twin Hammers has too stiff a setup for proper crawling and taking corners with medium-high speed makes it roll over - it doesn't give you best of both worlds, I wouldn't recommend it.' - I think he just didn't like it and it was a response to me wanting to give it a test drive. However, it may be a fair point that you need two sets of shocks to make it work really well for either type of driving.

I do like the TH anyway

finally the TH made it to the LHS here at $20.00 more than the online sellers. add on the shipping charges will be much more than $20.00! Time to find more space in my room:-)

i think i need one ................. i do need one ................... i must have one ................ im having one !!!!!!! B)

Are you referring to a cigarette or beer?

I dropped the hammer for the hammer and is lurking in my closet to be unleashed.

Haven't taken it out for the sniff test  or decided what options, if any, to order, than maybe the front and rear sway bars. I am not die hard runner so the stock is likely good enough for me and the add ons will be more for looks.

I picked up a 2nd hand one recently and am lovin the insane speeds. Not really a crawler by any traditional sense, the two speeds are more like fast and sonic boom!
