Recommended Posts

Rob its looking superb . Any idea what load you will be hauling ? A non fuctional Hihab crane would look great too .

Cheers guys :)

I chickened out of trying the crane. It's going to have an extended load-bed. I'm going to use it as a transporter, or at least that's the plan.

Looks fantastic! I don't know about the window frames not looking scale, to me they look like how I'd expect on a military vehicle with bullet proof glass.

Oh, and if anyone can pull off a crane then I'm sure you could, maybe at a later date (working would be even better too, no pressure though)

Wow, your build is looking great! I think these are the first photos where the frame, axles, springs, dampers, wheels, etc. are all painted. It looks really good!

In case you were wondering, the beast is still alive and well :)

The load bed is starting to take shape and I've been working on some details at the rear of the truck. I had to scrap the original rear wheel arches and make new ones but I'm happier with the look now. The bed is long enough to take two short wheelbase cars (WW2 or Lunchbox size) or a buggy or 4x4 plus a six-pack ;)

Tow hitch and large ring are aluminium, the smaller tow rings are plastic.

Hope you're not bored yet!

You know, you get better and better on every build. I am continually amazed at how each build can be more complex that what you've done before.

This also gets better and better on every post... You can see where I'm going with this...

You're creating a custom MONSTER of an RC vehicle. Tamiya should take note!
Great work!

Thanks guys, your support and encouragement is very much appreciated.

I must admit I'm having fun with this. I've wanted a multi-axle truck for a few years but haven't had the confidence to try until now. A big scratch build like this is a bit overwhelming because there's so much to do. I've found that I need to really concentrate on one section at a time to be able to make any progress.

I've kind of surprised myself with this build. I am very pleased with the way it's coming together. Yes, I can see the flaws and mistakes but there's nothing that really grates on me (one of the advantages of building a military vehicle - you can get away with a less-than-perfect finish!!).

It's not finished yet, I still have a few more thing I want to try and of course it needs to be painted/weathered. It's going to keep me busy for a while longer...

cheers,

Rob

PS: I don't have a tank but I have got my M113/Blizzard. That won't fit on the back, it's too wide, I'd have to build a trailer. Hmmm.....!!

Nice thought but the Patriot launcher has different rear superstructure and (I think) shorter wheelbase :(

Not hugely exciting news but the beast now has a tailgate...

I've made a pair of ramps so it's possible to drive cars onto the back of the truck and off again. The ramps need some tidying and finishing but I'll post some pics and maybe a vid soon.

cheers,

Rob

Really great work. Any plans for the bed liner? I mean the floor where the 2 willys are sitting?

Wood? Metal? Nothing?

You'll have to make some scale decals and place them around for "Authenticity!"

Cheers,

Skottoman

Thanks guys :)

No real plans for a bed liner as such though it still needs paint. It's pretty sturdy, the bed is plastic sheet bolted to an aluminium spine. I've got some ideas for bits and pieces to go in the bed but I'm going see if they work before I say any more!!!

And decals, yeah, hadn't thought about that - oops!

cheers,

Rob

Rob how about some 'stencilled' unit and regiment numbers . Something like Wild Willy's Logistics Corps maybe ? lol
