I've not been able to find any pics of the guts of this tank.. anyone know if it uses the newer driveline from the Leopard? Or is it the older style? I need another tank to do battle with the Sherman that I built several years ago for my wife. Really liked the looks of the Jagdpanther but don't feel like having to fix the model as I go..

I think you will find that the JS-2 uses the same guts as the KV-1, i.e. the small 380 powered gearboxes.

My Jagdpanther has been relatively trouble free, although the gun barrel mounting does suffer from a lot of wobble. I made an ally bracket for mine and added a servo to swing the gun left and right, but when I tried it in anger in operation the servo made the MFU operate in a very erratic manner, so I'm going to have to retrofit the tamiya gearbox back in. (Build thread here: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=63197) Best buy from tamiya WWII tanks IMO is either the Tiger I or Panther. Tiger I is relatively reliable, and I like the suspension on the jagdpanther, but should have gone with the Panther for the moveable turret instead. Given the massive cost of tamiya tanks now, I think I'd be tempted by some of Heng Longs newer offerings (Pz III maybe)

Thanks for the info. I'm now leaning towards the Tiger I with the upgrade parts to make it the Afrika Korps model. I'd like to collect them all eventually, but we'll see how that goes

I've looked at the Heng Longs, and saw some by another company.. Taigen I believe. http://www.taigentanks.com/Home%20Page.html

Any knowledge of them? Not a fan of prebuilt stuff since at least half my fun is in the building, but they might be nice to flesh out an army and fill in the gaps left by kit makers.

The Heng tanks are ok but need some work to make them a bit more durable IMO . Go for the pro versions with metal greabox's , sprockets and tracks and their quite decent . The smoke and sound systems are pity good but the smoke unit is prone to failure . Overall though their good valus for money . parts are easy to source and cheap . Taigen are basically REbranded Heng product with better paint jobs and upgrades fitted ie better speaker and the metal gearbox's . All the heng/taigen parts are interchangable .

That makes sense, and answers the question of "So.... why does every company make the same exact tanks?!"

Taigen are heng long tanks which have been factory customized Basicly the full metal versions with a better chassis on some of the tigers etc, (Late tiger 1 has allot of upgrades out of the box and is basicly almost Tamiya spec in the running gear (torsion bar suspension, late metal wheels and tracks, metal cupola mesh rear grills etc) , but heng long do make allot of tanks inc Tiger 1, BB Firing with Smoke & Sound

Panzer III F1 BB Firing with Smoke & Sound

Panzer III F2 BB Firing with Smoke & Sound

Panzer IV F1 BB Firing with Smoke & Sound

Panzer IV F2 BB Firing with Smoke & Sound

Stug III I/R Battle system Smoke & Sound

Panther G, BB Firing with Smoke & Sound & I/R Battle system Smoke & Sound

German Panther BB Firing with Smoke & Sound & I/R Battle system Smoke & Sound

Jagdpanther BB Firing with Smoke & Sound & I/R Battle system Smoke & Sound

KV 1 Russian BB Firing with Smoke & Sound & I/R Battle system Smoke & Sound

Snow loepard (Perishing) BB Firing with Smoke & Sound

Walker Bulldog BB Firing with Smoke & Sound

King Tiger (Porsche turret version) BB Firing with Smoke & Sound & I/R Battle system Smoke & Sound

Sherman (Welded Hull) BB Firing with Smoke & Sound + you've got the Matorro range with the Jagdtiger, sturm tiger, T34, and the list continue's not sure who's copying who now but there are allot of tanks to choose from and if you go to hooben they do a Ferdinand elefant (but that costs as much as a Tamiya kit costs) and if you go for any of them that are not heng long built just upgrade to the heng long electrics and add a Tamiya compatable battle system (about £30) and your ready to run

I'm really really interested in the Panzer III and STuG III.. but ultimately I want them to be compatible with the Tamiya battle system. Good to know that it's a fairly easy conversion.

Thanks for the additional info Bigwheels!

I've gotta say the full option Tamiya Tiger 1 was the best build Ive ever done, and easily the longest. Great slow speed control and prefect sound. I've had a few Heng Long Tigers and they're probably 90% the look of the Tamiya, control, sound and quality are no match though.

Control quality & sound are easy fix's, will get back to this this evening with a few more details on how to fix sort etc Heng long tanks & with details of battle systems etc, They are allot more tuneable than Tamiya tanks and there are allot more upgrades, just need to get some pics etc together.
