I am after a stick transmitter that you can bind multiple cars to as I am fed up with having a controller for each car, the final straw was traveling to wales and realizing when I was there I had picked up the wrong controller for the car I had taken with me, even though I had sprayed the back blue so I knew it went with the Blue RC!! DOH!

Anyway can anyone recommend a transmitter that will meet my following needs..

Must be 2.4ghz

Can hold multiple RC binds (up to 10 will suit but more if possible)

Ideally.. waterproof receiver

Good build quality

I use a Spektrum DX6i, which has a 10 model memory and you can get recievers from Hobbyking for about £7(not waterproof - but I use them in boats and float planes) each. I have also found that you can bind more than one model to each model memory so that you can run more than 10 cars off the transmitter.

The Fly-Sky/Hobbyking 2.4s are a very good value and the receivers are dirt cheap. I have the GT-2 and run six models off it with not porblems. I don't know about waterproof for any stick transmitter, but I'd expect that to put you in much higher price range.

[EDIT] Missed the "stick" part...oops.

but isnt the Dx6i and flysky stick tx's on a ratchet for throttle for planes, rather than a throttle return spring for cars, how does that work? i only ask as i am looking to do the same thing, but would need the throttle to return to centre.

I got in touch with the UK importer and they sent me the centreing kit and I fitted it in place of the ratchet setup.

No brainer - it's identical to the more expensive Core RC and ETronix versions (which cost £20 more) and it's a great bit of kit - loads of features and adjustments, pretty easy to set up and feels great to use, good solid build plus you can bind up to 15 seperate models :)

decent price for the combo, but £16 for a RX is silly compared to Hobbyking/Flysky ones. I have an Acoms 2.4Ghz for my son's cars and they are even worse at £24 per RX mind :(

You should be able to pick up a DX6i for around £70-80 and then the orange receivers from Hobbyking are around £7 each so a transmitter and 10 receivers will set you back around £150.

As Percymon points out the RX for that combo is £16 each so 10 receivers and the transmitter your over £200 and I have to be honest and say the DX6i is a much better transmitter.

Can someone point out a 2 or 3 channel stick Hobbyking/Fly-Sky tx as all I can find are 4 or 6 channel plane/copter ones? Or are the 4/6 channel ones useable for cars also?

Isn't it a bit weird having the sticks move in both planes though or can you lock them somehow?

I also prefer sticks to pistols (although I am trying to join the 21st C and am trying out a Flysky GT3B!) and I use a 6 channel Flysky stick Tx. I took the back off and simply used zip ties to lock the unwanted motion on the sticks. I originally planned to put a slotted bit of plastic around the stick, a bit like the 3 speed shift gate items, but that wasn't possible due to the design of my particular Tx. I also swapped the ratchet to the right stick and the spring return onto the left stick, since mine was a US spec air Tx, they do it different here!

It feels just like a 2 Ch Tx now, no movement on the sticks in directions there shouldn't be. I will try to take a photo after work and post it so you can see what I mean.

Oh, and the GT3B and CT6B (my 6 ch stick) work fine with the 3 Ch and 6 Ch Flysky receivers, just make sure you use channels 1 and 3 on the 6 Ch version not 1 & 2!

Well after reading this thread here: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=68976

I've just ordered the Tamco TAC330 that DaveB mentioned earlier up the thread as it would appear that the rx can be had for £8 a pop off Hobbyking making this a very cheap setup at the current sale price of £50!

Steve, it will be worth trying your spare Tamco receiver on the new Tamco radio set that your buying..

I will do Dave, I'll let you know if it works too as it'll open up even more options if it does!

I just read all of that and was about to spring into action when I spotted you'd seen my post anyway.

Good choice. Very happy with my Core equivalent.

What I would say is I've snapped the antenna twice now. You just need to flick it and it breaks.. It's very weak..

£6.49 for a new one. I've bought 3 so far and keep 1 as a spare. The latest one has been reinforced with a pen barrel....

Nope still can't find a pre modded Dx6i (If anyone knows where I can get one from please let me know), I will have another search tomorrow lunchtime if no one has found one before me :)

Spektrum can sell you one modded direct. On a side note, I have a DX6i that I want to do the mod too. Spektrum will NOT sell me the parts. They simply refuse and tell me that my only option is to send it in to them and they will charge me $40 or so to do the mod for me. Worst customer servive I have ever seen and I will NOT be buying any further products from them.

My Tamco bundle is due tomorrow, just need to order a couple of rx's from Hobbyking now to go with it!

I just ordered one from Hobbyking last night so I'll let you know how I get on when it arrives - if all's well then I'll order a couple more and maybe one of there £1.79 steering servos!!

Just received the Tamco TAC 330 from Modelsport and I have to say, it's a very impressive piece of kit! It binds no problem and the programming functionality built in for £50 is mind blowing.

Dave, I tried that other Tamco rx I had lying round and it wouldn't bind but on closer inspection its a AFHDS type not a FHSS type like the TAC 330 is so I think I'll be selling it on fleabay/here. I reckon the Hobbyking ones will work perfectly though so will be ordering a few tomorrow when I get paid!
