I've have a large number of handsets and some of them do not power up.

As I have so many I'm not precious about keeping them, but I thought I would make sure I'm not missing something before throwing them out.

I have a Futaba FP-T3GS

2 x Acoms Techniplus 27MHz and 40MHz.

I've kept the battery covers and ariels for spares.

If you have any other functional radios same or similar to these, you might strip these down for the potentiometers, triggers, sticks, and wheels as spare parts. Basic potentiometers have a track of carbon inside them and a wiper element connected to the shaft; with enough use eventually the carbon track gets scraped up and isn't as good as new. The result is felt in glitchy/twitchy steering or erratic throttle even if you have a known good servo or speed control installed. If you have other Futaba or Acoms radios, there's a good chance the same potentiomers are used them as well. I had a Futaba 2PH with twitchy steering, and it turned out the servo wasn't bad -- the potentiometer for the steering wheel worked better or worse depending on how the steering wheel was held.

Not too long ago I donated all the old AM and FM ones to the LHS with a good repair department. They were happy to get them and it beat throwing them out.

buy a can of switch cleaner , clean all battery contacts and power switch , if the pots dont work after it powers up spray them out too and squirt in a few drips of wd40 or gt85 after cleaning , done it many times and even got an old futaba attack 4 that had been left outside for an entire winter back to life doing the same ,

Thanks for all the top tips chaps.

I've decided to keep the battery covers, crystals and ariels and then recycle them at the local tip.

I've some how ended up with over 30 handsets and they take up a lot of space!

I've just hand a count up and although I've put 5 out for recycling and sold 4 with cars recently I've still got 26 handsets

In the garage!!

I'm sure this is common problem, but I'm convinced the handsets are breeding.

I'd be inclined to stick them all on eBay as a job lot. I'll bet someone would make use of them even if you only cover your costs. Seems a shame to just bin them.

I'll stick them on eBay tomorrow and I'll let you know how I get on.

I wasn't going too eBay them as I thought it'll end up being 1 of those lots that gives you more grief than it was worth

for a couple £'s.
