Both chassis types use 0.8 module pinions, so yes it will do fit.

Try to get steel pinions (available from Carson Modelsport and Robinson Racing), this won't wear out as fast as Tamiya's aluminium pinions. As far as I heard of, Robinson calls their 0.8mod pinions "32dp metric".

@Psylence: Gears are available in various pitches. Most (but not all) of Tamiya's cars use metric pitches from 0.4mod to 0.8mod, while some U.S. based manufacturers predominantly use "imperial" diametral pitch sizes (e.g. 32dp and 48dp). Metric and diametral pitches shouldn't be mixed from what I know, even if some sizes like 32dp and 0.8mod are said to be very close to each other.

EDIT: Please see also TA-Marks post below.

I've not seen any 0.8mod pinions from Robinson Racing (with a 3.2mm bore, only 5mm bore). It's their 0.6mod pinions they label as "48dp metric".

32dp is a suitable substitute for 0.8mod. The difference in tooth size is less than 10% of the mesh gap. I have a RW Racing 15 tooth 32dp steel pinion in my FAV (same as Wild One). Part # ARW3200-15.

Don't forget to use a piece of paper to set the pinion gap before you tighten the motor screws. Then wind the piece of paper out.

***EDIT: These http://www.robinsonr...ion.html#.8-mod will work, but note the RRP#1200 adapter that is needed to fit it to a 3.2mm motor shaft.

Quoted from the same page:

Note: 32 pitch and .8 module gears can be used together with no adverse affects such as increased noise or increased wear. The difference is that .8 module gears have a slightly larger outside diameter per tooth, roughly .00027 of an inch.

Thanks for your correction. :) I've heard Traxxas 32dp pinions would be very noisy when used with Tamiya cars. That's why I was assuming that 32dp will generally not mesh well with 0.8mod.

May I assume it would be preferred to use 0.8mod steel pinions, IF they happen to be available locally?

It's an either - or choice. You can read by the quote from Robinson Racing's website. The teeth spacing is identical, but the 0.8mod's teeth are 0.00027 inch longer. Can your verniers measure to three decimal places accurately? As I've said in other threads, you won't measure the difference.

A production run of Traxxas pinions that came out were another story. They were very noisy even on their own 32dp spur gears. They had the profile of the tooth incorrect (tooth profile too rounded). I have an older 14 tooth 32dp Traxxas steel pinion in my Fox and it runs quiet.

Many thanks! :) I think this is valuable information for all of those not able to easily purchase "true" 0.8mod pinions in their areas. Plus, this means I'm not restricted to Carson steel pinions anymore.

Now that my head is spinning with numbers, I'm frankly amazed that in all these years I've never had any stripped gears or other gearing related problems. Of course now that I know, I'm liable to grenade the next gearbox I build
