Hi guy's just got these and you have to put them all together and I was wondering they give you oil but it looks very thin ... anyone put these shocks together for there dt02 was the oil to thin?

Thanks

NUTS!! These shocks are a joke they came in a nice plastic package and looked great but as I go to build them they did not give me all the metal parts needed to build them ball ends and screws and C clips all missing from the package and in the instructions it shows the parts for assembly ...I can't even put them together all the parts are missing... is 3 Racing bad like this as I heard things like this happening with GPM parts... It's crazy!

hi,

i have 7 sets of 3 racing V2 shocks for various tamiya cars and they all arrived in perfect condition , i have purchased over 100 3racing products over the years and they have always been superb ,maybe the ones you got had been raided at the shop for spares or even had the parts stolen if they were on display ,

with regards the oil i use 35 or 37.5wt up front and 40-42.5wt rear in my dt02 cars , if you are using the 3racing springs you may want to go for heavier oil as the springs that came with mine were very firm for a lipo and brushless equipped car.

good luck with getting them sorted.

Hi Thanks I luckily had spare parts to hook them up and to me the spring rates are way to stiff looks like it will bounce over the bumps instead of the suspension actually soaking it up?

My Tamiya plastic CVA shocks feel much better on my other DT02 cars? does 3Racing make a spring set for these shocks?

Thanks

no probs,

i think 3racing still do the dt02 spring set but to be honest i would either go for tamiya buggy springs or losi springs (orange fronts and pink rears are a good combo if i remember correctly but do double check that) , i am using some old ansmann x-pro med springs up front and ansmann(team c ) x-pro med rears to great effect at the moment , you should be able to use any 2wd buggy springs , with most manufacturers going 'big bore' you can pick up the older standard bore springs that fit the 3racing dampers pretty cheaply ,

have fun :)

Yea I looked at the springs they are smaller coils than the ones on the Tamiya friction shocks and if I recall losi and traxxas are the same and associated springs where a little smaller coil diameter?

here it is with the new shocks on

Like alfagta, I've bought quite a bit 3Racing product and have found it to generally be pretty good. The dampers have all been good, and the graphite chassis conversions were pretty nice, too. I have seen some variation in the blue anodizing color, and I did get one prop shaft for a TB03 that was sloppier than the stock Tamiya shaft. Overall, though, I'm happy with their products and will continue to buy them.

I bought these shocks and assembled them at the weekend. (They used to come assembled)

I didn't notice any issues and they 'feel' ok on the buggy.

the alloy dampers do look a lot better than the kit white pogo sticks. The black wheels are nice, I am normally only a white wheel person but they do look good.

Howdy shenlonko, you prob know this but the df03 al/oy hopup shocks r a direct fit,bit pricey but i have them on mine n they r so good, very good shocks if u can find em cheaper(i got em for 60g.b.p instead of 95g.b.p)now shes hard to flip, even on badly timed jumps etc,she keeps on truckin

Thanks guy's

It's the springs that are junk the shocks while not the best they are ok so now I have to find softer springs maybe associated ones will work...

My shocks leak from around the upper plastic section that goes through the aluminum cap?

Do you guy's tighten the cap all the way bottomed out down or just turn them down till you feel the rubber seal compress and just give the cap a little more turn?

I noticed this when I kept pushing the suspension up and down quickly I then seen oil seeping out around the plastic section that goes through the cap.... I then took them apart and looked at the bottom of the plastic piece that seals up to the O ring and noticed the side that seals up on it was not smooth at all and had some nicks and indentations on it so I used wet sand paper and sanded the bottom smooth till there where no imperfections...now the shocks don't leak but I am still wondering if you should fully tighten the cap till it bottoms out?.

i have mine tightened right down , the diaphragms are quite soft so they should allow you to lock the caps down , as long as they dont leek you should be fine though. :)

I've found plumbers PTFE tape on the cap threads cures leaky dampers very effectively. I discovered one of the shocks on my 2nd hand Wraith didn't have a diaphragm so leaked like crazy. Replacement parts were hard to find so I tried a few layers of PTFE tape and its been fine since, effective damping and no more leaks.

Hey Shen, I found the TRF damper oil seals to fit perfectly in 3Racing dampers and no more leaks.

Thanks Thommo will have to get some if they start leaking again...so far so good I ran 2 packs through it and they look ok but the springs are way to stiff my nephew ran his also with me and he had the stock shocks sure it was bouncy but over the bumps you can see his A arms moving up and down but my buggy with the 3racing shocks bounced over everything hardly any suspension movement.... if the stock shocks did not keep bouncing they actually where working better.... I need softer springs for these 3 racing shocks.

I also found the springs way too hard on 3 racing shocks when i fitted them to my Blitzer . I think i actually ended up using the stock springs on the 3 racing dampers and that actually seemed to work really well .

Yea but now the version 2 shocks are smaller diameter and use smaller springs unlike the version one shocks did so now the stock springs don't fit properly..

it is possible to reduce the top and bottom coil on the stock dt02 springs using some water pump pliers or similar , just do a little at a time and check the fit , i did this at first until the new springs arrived , you will have to wind the ride height adjusters right down as the kit springs are quite short but it will sort them out to give you a more drivable car until you source some AE/Losi or other springs :)

Good idea I may try something like this.

Thanks

Is it just the 3Racing V2 damper base that's too small for the DT-02 kit friction shock springs? If this is the case, you may try to use a spare C.V.A II short shock (not mini shock) damper base.

The top caller that screws down is smaller but your idea may still work...thanks I am going to try that first before bending the springs to try and make them fit.

I DID IT!!!

I slightly had to bend the stock fighter springs just a hair at the bottom so it fits tighter on the 3 Racing shock bottom stay and it worked perfectly!!! on the rear because the springs are short and I still wanted to be able to adjust them with the screw down adjuster I used a Tamiya shock clamp clip the kind that a screw goes through to hold your adjusted height in place and it works perfect now. :)
