Ooooh this sounds interesting! Thanks for the info. Would this be the one you have by any chance?

Thanks again!

That's a bigger badder version and more $$

they make another more basic for half that amount that puts out enough amps for multiple HD power hungry servos

How are you getting on with the TXT now? Just ordered mine from Stella - cant wait :D

I don't possess a twin motor ESC so I am going straight in with both feet and fitting my 1/10 brushless buggy setup (Dual Sky 150A ESC and 6.5t Dual Sky motor) I will probably use a 14t pinion with it to start with - I also don't have any TXT/Clod wheels yet but the hunt is on - unless anyone has any they want to sell :)

Hey fella,

This is obviously just my opinion, but I was monumentally underwhelmed by my TXT-2. Its a wicked looking truck and a joy to build...but once running...I kinda hate the thing to be honest.

I've found it really hard work to turn it into a fun machine, its just so **** heavy. I initially had two sport tuned motors with a 100% standard set up out of the box. So far, that was BY FAR the best set up. I then invested in some TXT-1 wheels/tires. The effect on the performance was gutting. It went from zippy and fun(ish) to a complete sluggish blob. So I swapped them back to the ugly standard wheels, but by god does it perform better this way.

I then tried putting the TXT-1 wheels back on (as they cost a packet) and stuck in two 9T pinions to improve the take off. It improved it...BUT...I could jog faster than it. It ran like a dog. Now, the ****** was, swapping those pinions was an epic job and I destroyed a few 'thread locked' screws in doing so as you have to pull a fair amount of the chassis apart to do so.

I then spent a fortune on a Traxxas EVX-2 and two badass Titans...they've now been sat here for months as I just cannot stomach ripping it all apart again. Oh and the £120 spent on the official shocks was a big waste too, they are possibly the worst shocks I've ever had on a truck.

This may ALL be down to me being a numpty, as the truck sure looks sweet and feels ace when you pick it up, but it all went to pot for me once I started running it. I've spent the better part of £500+ on this sucka!

Oh :(

I was really looking forward to it until I read all that!

I appreciate that the silver cans were going to be gutless so I am on the lookout for a decent 550 motor (something like http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__24428__Turnigy_TrackStar_SCT_5_5T_Sensored_Brushless_Motor_3750KV_550_size_.html'>this and an appropriate ESC - like http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10370__Hobby_King_150A_High_performance_Brushless_Car_ESC.html'>this

I also ordered some clone TXT wheels as I am also on the bandwagon of the horrible TNX/Commando wheel haters!

Oh well I will take it as it comes - its more about the build anyway!

Cheers for the heads up for the extra shocks - will give them a miss!

There is no easier way to get to the pinions then? What a shame :(

I have fitted the txt-1 wheels to mine with 15t pinions with stock motors.

Think the 15t is better for standard motors as that is whats fitted in the txt-1

Must remember to paint my shell, too many other projects at moment

I don't have any issues with over heating, but I am only using 1 servo (savox) and standard motors with the Tamiya 2 motor esc.

I do know that 2 servos do put a large drain on the esc.

Sorry man, I feel bad for saying all that but you just hit my 'let off steam button' lol.

The build is great fun, I loved every second of that as its a magnificent chassis once complete. I think I've just had a run of expensive bad luck. It doesn't help that I bought a £200 Traxxas truck right after it that was ready to go, significantly better all round and has been my truck of choice ever since. I'm betting my opinion will change once I get the motors and ESC in.

And again, it maybe just me and some bad luck. If I'd just stuck with the standard pinions, wheels and just lived with the 2 sport tuned motors, I'd have probably loved it...its just the £100's of wasted extras I poured in that have made me go sour ;)

Traxxas?! Wash your mouth out with soap young man!

I have an excellent BMX track near to me that will put the TXT to the test - it would probably really suit a RTR Traxxas of some sort but I just cant bring myself to buy any other RC brand than our beloved twin star!:lol:

Ha haaa, yeah, its my first ever non Tamiya! I hate to admit it, but its an incredible machine. I bought the 1/10 scale Grave Digger (essentially a Stampede) and by the gods, its one impressive piece of kit. Fast as you could ever want, incredibly strong, waterproof and looks ace. Love it.

This conversation has inspired me though, I'm going to get my tools out tonight, rip this beast apart, get the motors fitted, order some new batteries and get her working.

I looked at that Grave Digger and was tempted - but I hate RTR - but I guess there is no point pulling it apart to rebuild it again lol

Dammit you got me wanting one now - sounds an ideal basher!

I was always the same, but my son was Gravedigger mad and I had £200 to burn. Best £200 spent on RC ever. Its been thrown around the local quarry like a wrecking ball and has never missed a beat. Epic, epic truck and loves deep puddles too ;)

Stop it, stop it - you are almost making me wish I had bought one instead of the £350+ I just spent on the TXT! :o

Don't worry about getting different motors from the silver can, just drop a 3S 4000mAh LiPo in it with a decent brushed ESC (I'm using a Ripmax unlimited one I bought over 10 years ago). I did this with my Jugg2 (Whihc is running the standard 15T pinions and Jugg tyres, which are the same diameter as the TXT-1), and it's transformed the performance. it's now about about as fast as the chassis can handle, and will easily do backflips from a standing start. £25 for a LiPo versus about £50 for 2 motors and you don't have to dismantle the truck to fit it, and it has the bonus of making any other car you can fit it in a lot of fun too :)

Nice idea - but I dont have an ESC to use :( So factor that in with the lipo and the 15t pinions and a £70 brushless setup with the 14t pinion I already have and I am evens but with a motor that wont need rebuilding :)

Like the idea though :)

So, this post inspired me. I got my EVX-2 installed today and boom, BIG improvement. Having two batteries powering this beast sure makes a difference. I just need to take her off road for a bit and do a little crawling (ish) to see if the overheating happens with this new ESC. Cant be bothered stripping her down to put the titans in, she seems fairly zippy with the extra battery power!

Posted

So basically what MadInventor was saying about a 3S lipo giving the silver cans a good boost was a good tip.

Will have to keep an eye out for a suitable second hand ESC just in case while I decide what to do.

Posted

My bullhead esc likes to overheat when going forward and backward popping wheelies and endos. Its fine on a normal run and resets quite quick if it goes out.

I may fit a cooling fan or upgrade.

Posted

Im running the same esc and stock silvercans.. I will run all day zooming around but 10 start stop reverse wheelies and it often goes out.. Its the only model I have had an issue with.

Power off and wait 60 seconds and its fine again.

This is my Jugg2 running a 10.8V Nimh on Silver cans versus a TXT-1 running an 8.4V Nimh and 2 19 turn motors.

I think you'll agree there's not much difference, and the Jugg2 has much more acceleration now using a lighter and more powerful 11.1V LiPo.

I've found that a single motor 3900-4600kv setup on 2s is fine, plenty of speed and power, but not overkill.

3s w/ silvercans works, but the brushes wear to fast for my liking

my heavy tube frame new era txt1 with a 4300kv and castle sidewinder esc 2sv lipo 16t pinion

As I participated in this I will update it - got my TXT2 running with the DualSky setup and its a complete ANIMAL!! havent even bothered putting the stock tyres on the wheels let alone on the truck... Lifts the right front wheel whilst chirping all four tyres when applying even 3/4 stick with the 6.5t motor/14t pinion combo on 2S lipo. Its too fast to even hold full stick in the street outside my house for more than a split second! I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!! lol

A quick picture... (ordered 2 red LEDs for the menacing lights) :)

Funny timing! As after god knows how many months I've FINALLY got this sucka working! The EVX-2, 2 sport tuned motors with 2 3000mah nimhs goes really, really well. I've ripped out the £150 tamiya upgrade shocks as they suck and have fitted a £25 set of EMAX shocks which are loads better...annoying waste of dosh.

Looking forward to some bashing :)
