I found this picture on Tamiya USA:

TamiyaPorscheBody.jpg

In the gallery for the 30th Anniversary Porsche here. The insert in the lower right does appear to be a picture of the L Parts (light buckets) from that kit.

That looks like a hard body to me...?

I've never seen one like it for sale

Why are the windows painted?

Any info, insights or part numbers? Or wild guesses?

At first I thought it could be from a static model (but it has body post holes) or a GT-01 but it appears not.

The body in the gallery looks like a lexan body to me. It's too thin at the body post holes to be a hard body. It just looks like they never masked the windows before spraying it.

The body parts (H & L) appear in the manual for that kit, and they are listed in the replacement parts in the back of the manual. #9004184. Can't say I've ever seen them for sale, but then again, I've never been on the lookout for them specifically. Here, but out of stock, like everywhere else I see a reference to them.

Interesting on a couple of accounts...

I actually concluded (in my own mind) hard body by checking the same cue as you - I actually thought the plastic looked "thick enough" in the body post holes to be hard. Does it not look like it's painted on the outside to you?

That link you provide is also interesting, the light buckets are those in the kit but the kit certainly doesn't come with the coloured wing**. The existence of the green molded wing in 1:10 scale is an anomaly in itself - why would it exist without a painted body? But Tamiya would never sell a body with windows painted like that I'm sure. It's quite strange that they've published such a picture (whether it exists or not).

I wonder if it was a pre-production idea that never saw the light of day?

** Edit: the coloured rear wing does come in the kit, I just checked. Still doesn't explain the pic of the body.

Any idea what the decal sheet looks like for this shell? It may feature decals for the windscreen and windows, which would explain why the whole shell is painted. Tamiya took this approach with quite a few models - perhaps this is one of them?

No windows...

Maybe it has green opaque overspray film on it instead of the usual transparent stuff? I have seen several types and colours of film used on perspex. Maybe it comes in different colours on lexan too? (Although it is a bit of a coincidence that the film colour should match the wing moulding so closely, so this is perhaps not the most likely explanation...)

Maybe they just didn't bother masking the windows for the promo shot? I'm not really sure what the mystery is here.

The "mystery" is the lack of connection of this photo to any existing body or explanation, it's quite atypical for Tamiya.

Unless you have a source that can help?

It's possible I'm misunderstanding, but I'm not sure what that even means.

All the pertinent information and explanation are in the link already posted here.

Tamiya used a hardbody to create their first RC, now they're releasing an anniversary edition with a lexan body and different chassis.

There's a pic of the original car here

It is possible that the picture shown is not even a photograph, but instead, a render of the CAD design used to make the body mould. That would account for the windows being body colour, and the very perfect uniform 'gloss' on the finish.

Hard bodies, being injected moulded, always have small heat distortion marks in the surface, and mould joint flashing. Takes much work to remove these marks from the surface and then get the surface back perfectly flat. None of this is visible in this image.

Look at the real lexan body in your kit. Was the mould used to make the body made up of 3 or 4 pieces? Tamiya usually blow mould into a multi piece buck, which can be seen on most of their lexan bodies by a faint line across the hood or boot. Again these marks, which are very hard to hide with the paint finish, are not seen in the image.

Thanks for the insight folks... I'm comfortable concluding it doesn't really exist, the various explanations above seem plausible.

The parts tree for the tail can be found, and is cast in the green color. I don't know if the original was cast in this color to make painting easier or what, but the new kit recommends a "new" Tamiya cobalt green paint, and the manual shows trimming/painting the inside, just like one would for lexan.

This body did exist for limited time, you can only buy it only if can show proof you

own the 30th anniversary kit. There is a certificate that comes with the kit

The wheels are the same but some how someone was able to get few of these body and wheels

On eBay in the past.

About the body it's 1/10 scale lexan and comes in clear only

That picture, like Sayer said someone did not bother to mask the body,

And it was painted in cobalt green to show better details , that all.

I have shelf queen of that 30th anniversary 934 at my showroom .

Its beautiful body and the only 934rsr tamiya made in 1/10 scale

I remember they also made a big deal about that PS-54 cobalt green color when this kit was 1st being released. Perhaps it was done to illustrate how the color is so close to the original 58001 kit. Only the people who painted and/or took the photos would know for sure.

I would agree, definitely polycarbonate, lazily sprayed to show the body details. Maybe painted in photoshop?

Correct me if I am wrong, but ABS hardbody's would not have any plastic in the windows at all, even straight from the mold they would be open, maybe a little bit of sprue to strengthen.

A clear plastic window tree would attach inside.
