Hi there (first post, ooh!)

I'm looking at getting my mud blaster up and running again, not touched it for years. There are 2 parts broken that despite looking for all day I have not been able to find. I did see that the front section is supposed to be the same as the current King Blackfoot though, but I don't suppose the part numbers are the same.

Could anyone help me with this?

The 2 parts broken are

G6 (0005247)

K5 (0115048)

If I can source the above parts I would be looking at re-building the chassis so I can give it a clean up (13-14 years of dirt there, never been cleaned or anything!) What greases / oils etc would I need ?

Thanks for any help.

Hey, welcome aboard [8D]

The Mud Blaster's front end isn't the same as the King Blackfoot, but it is the same as the Super Blackfoot (I think). The SB isn't made anymore so you're outta luck I'm afraid for finding those parts you're after brand new from a hobby shop. I'm sure someone here could help you with the suspension and steering parts you need though [:)]

Well the best thing to do is completely strip the chassis down and soak the plastic parts in some warm water with some laundry detergent or powder overnight. That always works for me as long as you give the parts a scrub every now and again. The plain old Tamiya grease should be fine, but if you want to run your car eventually you should put in some ball bearings when you re-assemble it. It makes all the difference.

Hope this helps.

Mike.

According to the online TC MudBlaster writeup the chassis is actually as per the original Blackfoot (not King or Super varieties)and Monster Beetle with the body parts being the same as the Brat (with the exception of tinted 'glass').

K5 looks like the servo-saver, which you should be able to interchange with other Tamiya and third-party parts (Kimborough maybe?) as long as it can take the ball-connectors. I think the Tamiya 'Hi Torque servo saver' (50473) might work as well.

G6 seems to be a shock body, which again ought to be interchangeable with other Tamiya and third-party parts (you need to get complete new shocks).

Now of course this all falls flat if the manual that is online is different to the one that you've got (see one of the recent Frog-related threads to get an idea of the confusion this can cause!). However, if my assumptions are right, I think you should be able to get the parts that you need either through TC members or ebay.

HTH.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the email Fury_dice. I had seen the K parts tree on ebay of america but i'm not sure I fancy waiting for something to come from the US, currently watching a complete blackfoot chassis on ebay UK. As I understand it the Blackfoot and MudBlaster chassis' are pretty much identical. It is getting rather expensive though at £30 + £10 delivery, is this a fair price? It's not too easy to tell the condition from the pictures. Alternatively is it possible to get alu shocks instead? I have trashed this thing quite a few times and this thing seems to get broken quite often. The steering thing has been broken at least twice. ()Hey i'm new to this, don't know the fancy terms yet! :P).

My shell is rather badly damaged sadly, i'm not sure how easy it would be to get a replacement. This one has rolled rather a lot and it broken all around the mounting areas.

Would it be worthwhile getting an upgraded motor and ESC for this ? I don't want to spend too much though. Whats the difference between the cheaper and more expensive ESCs?

Sorry for all the questions, but as I said, i'm new to building and have lots to learn :P.

Quick responses (Although this is way more fun, I need to get some work done this afternoon [;)])

Delivery from the US: I have had things from Jim S. in about 6 days end-to-end, so as long as you have Paypal it's not that long to wait. I think he ships Monday's and Thursday's (although I may be wrong).

Aluminium shocks: Pretty sure that this is straightforward, although I haven't personally tried it. Compatibility chart (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/carparts.asp?id=77) says that 50305 Short Shock Unit is compatible, but I suspect that other 'off-road' shocks will fit as well.

Can't really comment on the 'value' for that chassis. You probably need to be careful about explicit references to 'live' auctions (I know it's not a link, but probably still contravenes club rules)

Steering 'thing' : This is part of the 'servo saver' and the idea is that this will 'give' rather than strip the gears in the servo. An uprated one should last a bit longer.

Shell : New replacement would be pricey ($100 plus shipping from the HK or Jap. sellers), additionally sought after as it's shared with the Brat. Probably better buying/trading through the club (I got one that way) or keeping an eye on ebay. I think Parma did a lexan version which would be a bit more resistant to damage, and of course you could put a Blackfoot or Monster Beetle body on it if you found one (probably need different mounts).

Motor : Too hot will turn the car into a wheelie machine and probably strip the (relatively weak) gearbox. Others might want to comment here...

ESC : You get what you pay for - try searching the forums (link in the top right) as there have been numerous threads on this topic.

As for your question/comment about the club; Chris (Netsmithuk - the admin on the site) has completely rebuilt the site on a dedicated server and he's having a few teething problems. Stick with it and you'll find that it's a great place to be - I heartily recommend signing up and it's £15 well spent.

Cheers for now.

Think they also have different (antenna?) holes in the cabs, but that's only a minor difference.

Cheers
