DT02 challange event

Recommended Posts

I am hoping we can run a juniors class this year.

Standard class rules.

Could I please have a show of hands so I know roughly how many we might get.

2 juniors, possibly 3...

Can a junior and senior run the same car in different rounds and if they pay for two entries? If the answer is yes, then definitely 3 juniors.

It sounds like it might work yes. there would be a lot of battery charging going on in your pits

but if you think you can manage it I do not see why not :D

At last year's DT-02 challenge my Brother-in-law came along to watch. He's never been into RC at all before, but he was so taken with the whole event he decided to have a go this year :)

Here is his car in progress...

How did he paint the HB shell?

Tamiya plastic primer first, followed by Halfords spray paint.

Did he heat the plastic up first with a heat gun as I've seen several attempts to paint HBs end up with paint flaking off even when plastic primer is used? That type of plastic is incredibly difficult to get paint to stay on it although I believe heating it up to change the chemical composition can help.

Ok, so he primed it with Tamiya plastic primer and painted it. When he stuck some decals on the paint started to flake, so he coated the whole shell and decals with some automotive lacquer (I don't know the make) and now the paint seems fine.

Just thought I'd copy this post from a fellow TC member as entered on another thread (A1/IconicRC Revival Event in this section). I think this says it all. There are good 'fun' meeting events happening, now not only of quality, but now in quantity too! Maybe more TC members will join in sometime!

.........Really looking forward to this!

To anyone who hasn't raced before and is unsure about entering, let me say that last years Dt02 event was the first time that I had been on a track. Sure, my driving sucked, but it was great fun and a brilliant day out!

At the revival you're going to be racing with like minded people of a similar ability.

This promises to be a fantastic event, so blow the dust off those models and get yourselves entered!

Ok gang, I'm expecting to join you this year for some fun.

I have an. LB and an H.B 2010.

I've been through nearly all the pages of this thread and I'm ready to prepare my H.B!

I have few questions though if you could help me please!

H.B. Only new and it already has bearing fitted...

Ceramic grease or A.W for the gearbox?

17T pinion or 19T?

Is the 55T main cog the only option?

I have a Silver can and Sports Tuned motor I could fit?

Will my 101 ESC work with a GHZ TX and RX?

Will a shock absorber upgrade make much difference?

Is an upgraded shock tower a must have?

I want to dye the wheels, does this work?

Apologies for all the questions..

I'm not expecting to win, so I don't want to over spend on this model, but I do want to have a blast!

Hi Grumpy Pants,

Concerning the standard (HB/SR) class only:-

17T with 55 is what others use, me too!

Sports Tuned definitely

101 is a yesm, but a NO if you use the Sports Tuned, the 101 has a 27or25T limit. The Sports Tuned is a 23T, but definitely the one to fit to have the most fun!

Somekind of oil shocks definitely, but cheaps ones ok - most used 3Racing I think, but I used normal black plastic Tamiya ones.

The front brace bracket thingy is a definite YES, not compulsary, but they break easily, so would ruin your day! I've seen a photo of one broke this week (on IconicRC Facebook I think)

I've never dyed wheels, but I understand that RitDye stuff works well.

If you want a proper copy of the rules, I have them on pdf and WORD, so drop me a pm with your normal email address if you want. The rules were written in a way that they are help notes, i.e. if it says, 'you may fit', it is suggested that you do!

Grease is up to you - I use the grey moly stuff in all my models on bevel diffs. I suspect you may get 100 different answers to that one!

see you there! Simon

good to hear you are thinking of coming to the event chap.

the link you have there is for the rear carbon shock tower which is not permitted in the stock class.

The brace the others are speaking of is for the front and is this one.

http://www.stellamodels.com.hk/dt02-10wo-graphite-front-shock-tower-stiffener-tamiya-p-3297.html

Please read the rules carefully.

they are on page one of this thread :D

I guess this may be related to the TEU-101/-103/-104BK ESCs missing BEC, doesn't it? TEU-105BK and upwards (106BK, 302BK, TBLE-02S), feature BEC.

We'll be running 2 Holiday Buggys with 19T, silver cans and 105 and 101 esc's, plus a Sand Rover with 17T, sport tuned and a 105! Tower brace on each, Black CVAs on two and a mix of vintage yellow CVAs

And DT02 pogo-sticks :-)

Still hope to have a car for the mod class as well but that's a work in progress at the moment.

Really looking forward to meeting up again.

  2. Any brushless motor up to and including a 10.5

no modified brushed motors with adjustable timing and no brushless motor above 10.5

All the rules can be found on page 1 of this thread, nothing has changed from last year :D

looking very smart chap :D

That's one of the points of the standard class, keeping it simple and cost effective.

Not many formula's around that do that anymore. with so many restrictions its stops any 'cheque book racers' B) and al the HB's and SR's look awesome going around together .......

plus there is the mod class for people who want to put on lots of hop ups B)
