I'm ready to buy new batteries, but I'm not to go lipo yet!

The main runners are a L.B, W.W2 and an Xtreme, so nothing too heavy or serious.

Ideally I would buy 3 batteries of the same type from the same supplier.

All recommendations will be greatly received on battery types and the best place to purchase from.

I've bought the cheapest before on eBay and they were completely useless so I'm keen not to make that mistake again!

I personally really like the HPI Plazmas like this one..

They seem to last and last and mine are still giving great performance.

I have not had good experiences with the core rc batteries, mine didnt last very long

I also have one of these which is performing really well so far..

hope this helps

What's stopping you going lipo? I replaced my set of about tired 8 nimh's and nicd's with 2 turnigy 4000mah lipos (for about £30 from the US) and I always end up breaking something before they go flat! It's like night and day. I found a cheap balancer (for about £14) that connects in between my old charger and the battery and it seems to work a treat.

So I guess what I'm saying is, don't let the cost put you off - it doesn't need to be expensive.

Thanks Gruntfuggly, You are right I should just bite the bullet and enjoy Lipo.

I was holding off as I thought I would need to change chargers, battery plugs and fit fail safes if I was to go this route.

I'm guessing that 2s will fit most Tamiya with little or no Dremel work, I hadn't realised the lipo batteries were such good value either!

I too am not set on this LiPo thing yet. I'm guessing my charger (Ansmann acs47) isn't going to be any good either, and not are any of my speed controllers! So it would be a very costly exercise :(

From experience the NiCd packs have more 'punch' than the NiMh ones. I'm interested in a couple of 3000mah decent NiMh packs so will check out the above recommendations when I'm next on a pc...

You should see lipo punch, it's night and day vs. NiMH/NiCd

esc not a problem, 2S around same voltage range as 6-cell. For low voltage protection, that's what lipo alarms are for, and they are cheap

Charger, better use a decent one, lipo really do not like to be mischarged

Connectors, yup, tamiya no good, use deans or similar

Most probably you'll have to add cooling fan to motor especially on brushed and watch esc temperature

Heck, I drift around 1 hour on one 5000mAh 2S lipo, don't really need another battery
