Looking to import a new kit from Japan.

Question is what?

I'm a confessed porshe nut, but only want NIB and WILL NOT PAY the current rates for a 959. I already have Boxster, Carrera, VIP GT3, Tasian, PIAA etc. also a Pumpkin for chasing the dog (awaiting spraying before posting pics).

I've been considering a re-release dyna storm for thrashing up and down the road or possible racing? Is the clutch thingy any good? (I've read some reports on here that it's too heavy?) What hop-up biys does it come with? (i.e. what else would need to be bought to race?)

The other (more expensive) alternative is a Wild one. But I'm not sure I'd have the heart to run it? (by that I mean up & down the road, over jumps etc.)

Looking to decide today.....

Probably a Dyna Storm would be a good buggy.

I don't know too much about the racing of it so could'nt really say how it compares to modern buggies.

I have an original that I keep for a show car but it has basically everything you would need hop-up wise. Although it did'nt come with a motor and I think the re-release is the same.

You could get any motor though so it's no big deal. It comes with full bearings, alloy dampers etc. It has a FRP chassis and the body is quite well sealed up so not much dirt would get in.

I have a similar "slipper" clutch mechanism on my Kyosho Triumph and it works really well. I don't see there being any problems with it. It does need setting up though so it's worth spending a bit of time playing around with it before you do a lot of driving otherwise I think you could burn out the friction plates.

The suspension angles are also adjustable so they would need setting up too.

The only problem with it if you just want to bash around is that the underside of the chassis is not protected, it does'nt have an undercowl like the Top-Force's have so the chassis plate would become damaged quite quickly.

I guess it all comes down to what you will do with it. If it's purely for bashing around then a Terra Conqueror is a good bet ( if you can find one ) I have one of these and because of the plastic tub chassis it is very strong. This car is basically a hopped-up Manta Ray and comes with full bearings, Dyna Tech motor, adjustable suspension arms, and a few other bits and pieces that are desirable but nothing you don't really need, like FRP chassis's.

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking the 2WD will be quicker & more fun. I think the re-release comes with motor & I've seen them on e-bay @ $245 (inc. shipping) so will probably go for that today.

Unless anyone can convince me otherwise?

A 2WD should be quicker.

I have a Kyosho Triumph ( very similar to the Dyna Storm ) and also the Terra Conqueror ( 4WD ) I don't really find much difference in speed ( I only play around, not race )

I think the main reason is that the 4WD has more grip for acceleration and it also turns better because of the extra wieght over the front ( I have a one way bearing in the front also )

The 2WD is lighter but has less grip for acceleration and also does'nt turn nearly as well.

Someone with more competition experience may shed more light on these opinions though.

Thanks, I'm not sure if I'll race or not, probably just thrash around. I've been keeping my eye open for a top force (taking your undercowel comments on board) but can't see any at the mo.

Anyone looking to sell a suitable NIB buggy?

Thanks!!!!

I've just mailed Jason to see if he'll do a deal on both a Dyna Storm & Top Force. I also just mailed the seller of the Terror Conqueror to see if he's relisting & what his reserve might be.

Thanks very much for your help!!!

If your looking for a car to run, by something that your Local hobby shop stocks parts for. None on my LHS stock very many current tamiya spares as there are too many cars to stock parts for. They would most definetly not stock anything for the dynastorm as it is a re-release. You might run into parts problems in the future. My vote would be for an associted B4 or losi XXX buggy

You can generaly get parts for almost anything from e-bay or contacts. Of course it takes longer to get them but unless your racing all the time then it should'nt be a problem.

Also local shops normaly charge the earth so you would'nt buy much from them even if they had the stuff.

If you win it I would suggest replacing the Orange wheels with identical white ones because they are easily available and the Orange ones are'nt.

The Orange ones come from the Top Force Evo so would have some value.

Also I would keep the Dyna Tech motor new and use something else. I use a Tamiya Sport Tuned which you can get for $20/$25. This motor is about the same speed so is good for bashing about, you really won't notice any difference. The battery lasts ages with it too.

I think the Dyna Tech motor would have some collector value so it's worth keeping new. It was the standard motor in the Egress so it would be collectable like most Tamiya motors, specially the Technigold.

I used to race electric cars and 1/8 IC off-road for quite some time when I was younger and I still say that 4wd electric takes the fun out of driving - they're too competent for most drivers to find their limits. A well-balanced and setup 2wd electric car is about the best recipe for real driving fun in an everyday ability range - if you can get a car that is essentially back-heavy to go where you want it to at speed, you'll find yourself far more impressed than when your 4wd claws its' way around every corner with your throttle wide open... just my two pence' worth :-D

Having said that, for out and out speed for club races ( especially mixed classes ), go for a good 4wd car.

Well, I won the Terra Conqueror auction for a reasonable $155 including shipping to UK.

Given the advise in this thread, I'll find some wheels/tyres locally & I already have a mod motor I will use.

Now, I just need to wait for Jason to reduce his price on that Dyna Storm.....[:D]
