I can try to measure the shorter 03 belt tonight, it's only marginally shorter than the regular one, still much bigger than a TA05 belt though. Not only the belt, but the C, D & E parts can be quite hard to find, and a pair of gearboxes in the same **** colour - they did black and grey and buying by the part number is a lottery...

Was reviewing the parts list of the TA05 934, in hopes that the alu bulk heads would be the same as a TRF416 (which I own) no such luck.. all specific to the chassis. Lancia 037 running on top of the TA05 short wheel base chassis would be sick!

At the risk of sounding a bit dim, wasn't the Lancia mounted on a Brat chassis with a difference front bumper and wheels?

Would the new body set fit onto a Re Re Brat chassis? Or isn't a great choice now that times have moved on?

You are correct.. originally in the 80s it was on the Brat chassis. Im sure the body in essence is the same.. they probably retooled it for tc body mounts. I will let an expert chime in.

Though not an expert, I will attempt to explain:

The re-release body shell would not fit on a re-release Brat chassis, unless the wheel arches are made significantly wider. The original Lancia Rally had those larger arches to accommodate the large tires and suspension travel on the O.R.V. chassis.

In addition, new body mount holes would have to be drilled at the centre of the hood/bonnet and at the sides. If using the original bumper, two large holes also need to be drilled into the front lower grille to fit the bumper posts into the chassis.

Other than that, the body sets are in essence the same.

Less-significantly, the re-release model features a window/windshield piece that covers all the window openings, whereas the original had one that left the right-side window open to leave room for an antenna. If using modern RC equipment, this open window will be irrelevant as many 2.4 GHz receivers do not have aerials that will reach the antenna mount. The re-release 'glass' also has a hole drilled into the centre of the rear windshield for an antenna pipe out back as on the touring-car chassis it is based.

All light buckets and body accessories carry over, though. I believe the re-release set also has the added bonus of side mirrors and windshield wipers to add scale detail. A current re-release body set will not have a cockpit piece like the original re-release kit, which in turn is different from the driver torso/bust the original car featured, mounted on the inside of the body.

So, if you do plan to modify a re-release bodyshell to fit a Brat chassis, the only significant modifications would be to drill new body mount holes and widen the wheel arches. Those are the most important changes.

My first thought was my M06, L would make it 239. But then you have to figure out the width of 187 mm.

TL01 arms should achieve the necessary width. I've been intending to put an M06 under a 934 or Taisan 911, but haven't had a chance to test it yet. There looks like enough room to fit some spacers in the rear arms to adjust the wheelbase a few mm.

TA03 blue belts are rare as. I have one though :) Fitted here to my TA03F, which I restored with some new GPM parts this weekend. It's not 'that' blue in reality. I bought it years ago when they were more reasonably priced, I think I paid around £20 for it. I still have the packaging for it too, since I put the boring old standard black belt in there to keep it flat!

I'd love a red belt for my TA03R-S but the prices are just too extreme for a little bit of rubber. I wonder if there is a company out there who would be able to manufacture drive belts for these old cars? The width of the belt might pose a problem I suppose.

I'am willing to bet that I can get these belts made . I used to sell bearings , belts and motors ( industrial applications ) years back . I 'll give my old contacts a few phone calls . Width is no problem as they make a batch and then split / cut them to the width required . All I need is some measurements ie tooth pitch and count + overall length .

If I knew how to accurately measure those things I would help. I have a couple of spare belts here. Could they do coloured belts do you reckon?!!

honestly I don't know but I can ask . Can anyone confirm 3.7mm is the standard width on these belts and the tooth type / pitch ?

I'll take a belt with me to work tomorrow and borrow a measuring caliper. You'll need to talk me through how to measure the pitch though, I assume its the distance between teeth?

It would certainly make it scale realistic.. rear motor, rear wheel drive.... you can set it up to be tail happy as well :D

It sounds very familiar. I do believe a TC member put a Lancia Rally shell on an M-chassis - I shall go find it...

Nice Wandy. I just picked up a TA03R roller with a Mercedes CLK GTR body for $125. Car was a shelfer. Unless that illusive belt rears its head, it will be a RWD as well.. plan on using the Lancia 037, Porsche 911 GT2 and Porsche 934 bodies with it.

By the way, although the Tamiya 037 wheels are available on back order, here is another option from RallylengendsRC

Magnesium finish (although in the picture it looks grey)

RE fitting an interior, I finally got around to trimming my interior for my PIAA Porsche yesterday and clearance to the belt is very tight! As the belt is quite high compared to a lot of modern TC's, there's about 5-8mm of clearance but I have yet to fit the belt tensioner and I think it might rub the underside of the interior...

EDIT - Bad news guys . My contact has said that he's unwilling to make belts this narrow as the manufacturing process he uses is

is not suited to them . He would have to use Kevlar and the cost of the raw materials would not be 'worth his time'to quote his words . Sorry chaps .

Not good. Still hope that we may be able to find something on the market though. I'm almost certain now that the pitch of the belt is 3mm (between "V's") and the width is 4mm. Industry standard sizes are 6, 9 or 15mm by the looks of it. Could a 9mm be cut in half though I wonder?

As for teeth, I counted twice late last night (in my defence!) and first count I was at 175 teeth and 173 teeth on 2nd count. So it's in that ballpark!

I can't find the length listed by Tamiya anywhere, or the teeth count.

I'm well on with my ordering of bits to do one of these having so far secured a TA-03R-S chassis and the Lancia 037 body set. I now need to order the H parts (front bumper and rear body mounts) which only Tamico.de seem to have in stock. Unfortunately though the shipping is mightily expensive making 1 set of H parts to be over £30 delivered.

I was wondering if anyone else who is doing one of these wants to join me for a mini group buy of H parts. 2 sets brings the cost down to £25, 3 sets would be £23 (after that the cost doesn't come down much more). I would forward at no cost within the UK as I have the means to do this.

Anyone interested?

On a side note, the real Lancia 037 was actually RWD so these models really shouldn't have been 4WD in the first place (for those of you trying to source belts for a shortened TA-03 chassis).
