Its a shame that the offroad class stopped preserving the heritage of the original dune buggy. This is why I don't yet own a 4wd buggy.

LOL, modern pro 2WD is no better. You guys need to get out more.

BTW: Whenever did any sort of competitive racing class preserve dune buggy heritage?

This one is a pure work of art to me. It's low-slung and reminds me of a fighter cockpit with the big side windows. It screams "low COG!" to me. The arc at the rear of the body follows the wing mounts perfectly. All I see is speed.

In truth, the RC10 killed the dune buggy heritage. Now Ive seen on RC10talk that there was a 1:1 scale that looked like it.. however after the release of the RC10, the focus went towards pure racing aesthetics. Scale realism in racing remained dead until 2010 or so when RCGT class came out for touring cars.

Now you have F1, Vintage Transam, RCGT / GT10, scale stage rallye.. which are all on road based.. but it has not caught on with off road.

I did read somewhere that some realistic bodies are to be released for SC class.. but buggies.. yep we have cab forward design..

and by the way.. I own a TRF201 lol.. so I do get out just a little bit.. i bought it new built off a guy that never ran it.. he painted the body with some crazy flames. Once the body is busted up, I am going to paint one up rough rider style.. have the decal set ready to go. Who knows maybe I will even put a few spot lights on it so people at the track can laugh at me lol.

When I read the last few posts on here I realise just how much of a 35yr old (25yrs playing with RC) noob I am lol. Sticking in a ballrace set, putting in a slightly quicker motor and err, oh yeah, a higher capacity battery is about as far into 'modification' as I've ever known. Actually wait, no, I am hardcore as I changed the amount of spacers in my shocks once!

I don't even know what half of what you chaps are saying even means ha haaaa. Man, I've not even dabbled with the dark arts either, you know, brushless and all that lipo stuff ;)

Gimme a bog standard Egress, a sport tuned motor, a 3500mah NIMh and a little off roading and I'll feel like king of the world.

Explains why I was rather crap at racing in my youth ;)

Oh and what on earth has happened to all the modern buggies? They all look TRULY hideous! I mean each to their own and all, but man, my eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyes!

Glad I'm not the only one that feels sort of left behind on all this new stuff.

This hobby is also scale reproduction of real existing items.

What we see on the track today is not so scale reproduction related so id not so related with what I think this hobby is.

Also I can understand about performances but the eyes need their part.

W the Egress!

^LOL, that's exactly what I thought when I saw the Neo Scorcher. I think it's a fantastic modern version of the Terra Scorcher. I'm not a fan of the current crop of pickup-truck looking cab-forward buggy bodies, but this one is quite good (though obviously not designed for max performance (at least the rear wing isn't).

In truth, the RC10 killed the dune buggy heritage....

Funny you say that cause I always though the same thing. Once that thing came out, I lost all interest in RC. It wasn't until I started hanging out around the local parking lot races almost 15 years later that I begin to understand the draw of real RC race cars. It's a completely different mindset driven by cutting edge engineering and technology. And you get to apply it in fun way for not "too much" money. As a car-guy, I could definitely appreciate this. Then I started racing touring cars and I was hooked. I remember the 1st time I drove a real Protoform race body vs my scale-ish Subaru Impreza. The balance & downforce made an unbelievable difference. There was definitely no going back after that. I guarantee it's the same in off-road.

Another price to feed speculation - Amiami has the Egress listed at 37,400 yen, which at the current exchange rate is £236.38.

Their prices always include a discount, but even so - that's kinda cheap! Stella usually beat Amiami on price for RC spare parts and kits, so that's looking promising.

I am aware the difference race bodies make. I owned an NTC3 when it first arrived and ended up buying a racing body, car was dialed going around the track.. then it suddenly hit me.. what is that blob going around the track.. its not a scale down version of a real car.. its a caricature of a real car. I sold the NTC3 the following week and took a one year break from the hobby. What brought me back was the TA04 :)

Since that day I have stuck to my belief, I will be in this hobby, participate in racing, so long as I run a scale body that appeals to me, no matter how it effects my chances of winning. Im here to have fun. I race M class with an M06 and Alfa Giulia GTA body (no fwd for me) and GT10 class with a TRF416WE using either an Alfa 155 V6 body, Carrera GT, or Audi R8. I always have a blast :D

I don't think there can be any doubt now that some sellers are going to be able to offer the kit for a delivered price healthily below the £300 mark.

Fundamentally I guess it depends on how one would answer this question: Do you enjoy RC as being a scaled down version of something else, or do you feel that it stands as something unique?

For me its a scaled down version of 1:1. I can't afford a garage filled with Alfas (well I have one), Lancia, Porsche, dune buggies etc.. so I buy RC. That's also how the hobby got started, there were plastic models and someone said, well add a motor and control to them to bring them to life.

Same goes for Airplanes.. I like scale warbirds.. the ones that fly really well but don't look like anything do not interest me.

Strange it says sold out.. I guess they took in a bunch of orders already at that price.

Hey Mike, hold that thought Mate and check post #9 and then post #16 of this link.

I finally opted for a GT Tuned with a 21t steel pinion and it worked out great.

And here is an Egress pic, just for the heck of it. The pics on the last page made me uncomfortable.

Ha haa, we were deviating from the holy path there for a moment. Thank you for correcting our ways ;)

Hmmm, how odd. My Avante 2001 is rocking a sport tuned just fine, but maybe it's an old one...I'll double check. I think the GT tuned is the motor featured in the re re that was photographed at the hobby show too, so that might just get added to my shopping list :)

Yeah it would have to be the original Sport Tuned for sure. The current one with the short rotor shaft just doesn't fit the Egress.

I think it might have been a TZ or BZ Super Stock at the hobby show. I've run a TZ in mine too and it was very quick.

All of the Hop-Ups, alloy parts, the body shell and wing and the track wheels and tyres from my original runner Egress will be transfered over to my re-re Egress and I will probably go with 11.5t brushless for track use. This will be my new 4WD modified for our vintage track meets and my original runner will be restored for the shelf.

I just want to know what stella is going to charge, as if its within £20 (including shipping) of Fusions price, I'll take it from fusion. Something about ordering from a LHS gives me a warm glow inside ;)
