So, if the Egress is NOT classed as a limited edition kit, do you think that we'll see some more 3rd party parts appearing for it?

I know that Yeah Racing have done Avante front and rear knuckles, but I was wondering if someone may make alloy front and rear arms. I know that the knuckles are considered a weak point, but if these are replaced with alloy parts (as I will be doing), then I can see the arms being weakened as they will now have to take more stress.

Also, if I remember correctly, one of the racers back in the day (Jamie Booth?) had a rear arm mod that replaced the trailing arms with conventional wishbones. Does anyone have any more info on how this was achieved? I'm tempted to try to get something prototyped...

Alloy arms on an RC silly. They will surely destroy the gearbox or chassis in a crash. You always want the arm to be the weak link. Plus alloy will bend instead of flex in non-destructive impacts. .....And they are heavier.

The only thing these chassis need from the aftermarket is new front end geometry with longer plastic/resin arms & shallower knuckles. This could fix ~90% of the problems with these cars (sloppy floppy front end).

What I cannot get my head around is this :

Now that we know of the forthcoming Avante 2001 bodyset re-release, why did they not just fit the new Egress with the 2001 front damper brace? They could still have done away with the BF8 & 9 parts by doing so.

All very strange.

The Avante 2001 damper stay has different length from the Re Re Egress Damper stay, which i think in re re, Tamiya maintained the same position as in vintage without BF8 & 9 due to new shape and structure of the Damper stay..

All 3 front end setups are completely different.

Egress 1989:

- low wheel rate (requires stiffer spring & damper setup)

- least angled damper (suspension is least progressive with most consistent feeling steering on or off power)

- Tall shock tower

- Most droop (allows most rear traction under acceleration)

Egress 2.0 (2013):

- high wheel rate (requires softer spring & damper setup)

- medium angled damper (relatively moderate progressiveness but increased braking understeer compared to 1989 Egress)

- Tall shock tower

- Least amount of droop if any at all (more bottoming & on-power oversteer than others)

Avante 2001

- high wheel rate (requires softer spring & damper setup)

- most angled damper (becomes stifferest in compression means most understeer when braking)

- lowest shock tower

- Medium amount of droop

This is the reason it's bogus they didn't do the BF parts. It completely changes the characteristics of the car.

What you means for "wheel rate"?

At the end I believe Tamiya didn't do again the lower damper mounts because with that configuration there were many problems.

You had more ground clearance on front end but the steering plate did touch the ball ends limiting the suspenion travel in compression.

The Universal joints (should be solved with the modern CVD joints) did work bad at complete extention.

I suppose now the car is lower on front end so less problems. Really don't know if it's a suspension set up choice or another problem that made change idea to Tamiya engineers.

Wheel Rate refers to the effective spring rate out at the wheel. It's figured by the motion ratio of the suspension which is essentially controlled by how far out the lower shock mount is positioned on the control arm. If your coilover is connected in the very center of the arm, the wheel will have much greater advantage over the spring & damper than if it were connected further out. This makes any given shock/spring seem softer which in turn requires a stiffer shock & spring setup.

Effective Wheel Rate = Spring Rate * (Motion Ratio)2

BTW: I would be interested to see the interference you mentioned. I can't seem to picture it.

Honestly I think Tamiya went with this setup so they could just release one pair of front gold springs to cover all the new chassis. The original Egress front end definitely required a stiffer spring. (Vanquish is the same as 2001)

Looks like it will arrive at Stella next Friday, November 15th.

I note that Fusion still have a date of November 11th but they state this is the release date, which doesn't necessarily mean that they will actually receive their kits on that date. It sounds like they are simply leaving the factory in Japan on the 11th.

I imagine Stella will come calling for our cash early next week. :)

Come on Stella get these puppies shipped!

Or will it be totally sans bonus parts ? Lets take a few pot shots and see who gets it right.

I did have a sneaky feeling this one might not come with bonus parts. Just a hunch.

Are we getting a tad jaded? It's a freaking Egress release! Although I easily could afford it I wasn't going good to spend 1000 for a nib, build it, and than have it break due to 25 year old materials. I couldn't afford this as a kid. I still love building these things, painting and driving. Thank you Tamiya for bringing this back! I have lower shock mounts and blue connectors on the way. I can't wait!

Ah, no it's not...

"please note that this is a pre-order auction the car kit will be arrived at mid of NOV"

But those are some nice pics.

Little bit disappointed the presentation isn't the same... bearings and pinions are probably in the parts bags rather than the blister. But no deal breaker. It's a *******in' Egress!

Jaded? Hardly. Tamiya went lazy for a $560 kit. Look at the green blister of the re-re. Notice how the size and shape of the middle blister (holding the motor plate) is the same size and shape of the original (holding the bearings in foam). They didn't even change the blister to fit the plate but removed the pinion blisters and shortened the universal joint blisters to fit the the new CVDs. It's a half-assed job. Are there really no other parts in the bags that wouldn't have looked nice on the green blister?

Contrast that with the blue blister pack and notice how it has nice spacing between parts and looks extremely similar to the original.

It's a money grab, pure and simple. I have 2 on pre-order.

So disappointed.

The box art photo refers to vintage Egress and nnothing to do with re re egress.

Old damper stay and side sticker!!!.

What this nonsense. ....

I am really mad.
