Even if they did lose tooling i don't think that would stop them from making new tools, even if it meant they would make a loss. It would be the perfect way for them to demonstrate how much power they have.

Me thinks their original moulds were swept away by the typhoon and that they are demonstrating their power by recalling some of the kits to make new moulds from them. :D:D:D

Seriously, the typhoon scenario you came up with earlier could realistically be the cause of this delay. There are so many parts that go into a kit. If any component such as the blister box plastic or something as insignificant as the paint protection film on the bodies were to meet with a disruption in supply, it would stall the whole process of production.

Just wondering, are these delays only affecting the Egress 201and Avante 2001 body sets?

I would think it is probably not the factory's equipment in Cebu that is the issue but the workers and more specifically the workers families. Many would probably have taken emergency leave and gone to Tacloban or northern Cebu, to help their families. Pinoy family are BIG and they are also very much extended families. So I wouldn't be surprised if there were no workers in the Cebu factory that didn't have at least a few cousins who have lost houses or worse. I wouldn't be surprised if the factory has a very low production rate for a few more weeks yet before they can get back to full swing again. So, I wouldn't put any faith in the rumours that they won't be more Egress shipments. It is just a delay.

I agree

That doesn't sound right. jr-rc usually ships his kits by EMS with a tracking number and it shouldn't take that long.

LOL, that guy unboxing the pair of Egresses is me. Yes, its an amazing example of what a Tamiya kit should look like inside and out. Oh and it smells just like the Tamiya kits I had as a kid. It really brought back a lot of good memories.

This time of the year it does take longer , it's coming up to christmas time people !...

Strongly doubt it mate. Hong Kong post were stating the last recommended departure date to the UK was 30th November. If still they aren't getting sent a week after that date then there is no chance of getting one on time now.

My Mad Bull left Banzai Hobby (Japan) via EMS on Sunday, it landed in the UK overnight :D

Now the 7+ day wait for it to clear customs at this time of year !

Scrub that, its already processed and in the national hub - 8 hours after touching down in Blighty - looks like no charges either :D

Well, I just placed a preemptive order with Wonderland Models, so I'll see who gets theirs first - Wonderland or Stella, and cancel the 'loser'.

My money is actually on Wonderland, as they should hopefully be getting part of the first shipment, that Stella already had and sold out of.

This Egress buying malarky is a logistical nightmare!!!

I need some advice. If my eggy ever turns up. I intended to run it as is but i am now contemplating making it the same as the original. I have just bought some blue adjusters. Can anyone advise what parts i need with part numbers or even better supply the parts as an " downgrade/ upgrade kit"?. I believe it is knuckles and bf9 hangers or some such?.

Regarding jr-rc. It has been 3 weeks since purchase with an email after a 10 day wait stating kit was on its way. I wonder how to long to wait before taking the next step to try and provoke a tracking number. I was the last to purchase an egress from him and I am worried he cannot fulfill and i will wait 6 weeks and get a refund and no kit which I am totally excited to get now. I am normally very patient but this thread has not helped!.

It depends how far you want to go towards the original to be honest. If you're just talking front suspension, then you'll need 2x BF4, BF8, BF9, uprights and an original shock tower.

If you're talking the whole kit, then you'll also need a vintage ball diff and torque splitter set, original universal shafts and a few other bits (for example roll bar connectors).

If you really want to convert it to full authentic vintage, then you will most likely need to replace most of the kit - even the chassis and hicaps of the rere are slightly different, AFAIK.

The thing is that most if not all of the parts that are different, have been changed for the better if you intend to run it. The uprights, ball diffs and drive shafts are FAR better than the originals. For a shelf queen though, this is obviously irrelevant.

Hope this helps.

I like the sound of it 😄 your sales pitch makes Egress look bulletproof and fast.

Someone need to build it and run it on the track - show off the look good, feel good factor of the Egress vs the current look-alike buggies.

If you expect it to be bullet proof on track against modern cars, think again and look elsewhere. Yes parts have changed but it's still no Associated B44 or Durango 410.

Exactly. It's improved over the original, but still not up to taking on modern 4WD cars.

It will be fun in the less competitive vintage class though, which is where I plan on running mine.

It's not really breakages that I would be worried about (although the standard plastic front and rear knuckles look to be weak points). It's just the design of the car not being competitive compared to modern buggies. The steering and wishbone setups are, well, quirky to put it mildly, and the Egress has never been a particularly light car either. The drivetrain is pretty inefficient too.

If you plan on racing, I would stick to a class of cars from the same era.

You will find that the terrible front steering system will bobble around endlessly on the track. No matter what you do to shim slop out of the steering/suspension system, it's completely unavoidable. The scrub radius of the suspension is TOOOOooooo far off to allow the wheels to point in the direction you're steering at all times.

This is why the front knuckles of modern 4WD buggies look the way they do. Specifically to get the king pins as close to the center line of the wheel as possible. This eliminates feedback from road irregularities into the steering system (WHICH THEN STEER THE CAR). Here are pictures detailing the differences in king-pin location on a modern buggy vs these old Avante series. You can clearly see the Avante's upper & lower king pins are WAAAAY outside the wheel.

The egress is novel in that it's the first real race car development by the TRF. I think the Avante before it was 100% engineering & 0% development.

Yeah, yeah, bla, bla, bla. An Egress would smash the granny out of any other buggy in the entire world and you know it ;)

Mate, don't feel bad asking him for a tracking number. You paid for shipping and most sellers would usually furnish this without the buyer asking. With the tracking number, you can check Japan Post to see when it left the country. And when it enters your country, you will be able to track if its being held by customs for taxes.

Hmmm, it's hard to argue with that logic.

I'm just over-bored with all these "waiting for my Egress" posts. Somebody needs to say something about the **** car!

Feel so relaxed and happy when got this email from Banzai Today:

( There are no exact date from Tamiya yet. We may just receive without any notices from them.

However, we will send them off to you as soon as we receive and will notify you.

We hope you can receive by Christmas! )

 B)

I think we can relax chaps, news just in from Tamiya Blog...

"Shipping will be postponed due to production reasons from 11th December (in Japan) to a new, still undecided date, we will post new infos when they are available."

...I think we can safely say that more are coming, its just a matter of when. Interestingly, it states 'In Japan' which says the delays are nothing to do with the hurricane.

I bet the Team Associated boss popped over to the factory and stole all the employees ;)

Saw that, but it was talking about the Avante 2001 body set, not the Egress.

Argh, I somehow managed to not read the title, you know, the bit that tells you what the article is about...DOH!

lol that news is 9 days old already. And you call yourself an Egress fan? ;)

BTW the 2001 body was just given an official release date of Dec 14th. So optional body-sets might be out before the Egress. lol
