Yep, wrong.

Basically imagine a coil spring unrolled. Just a long thin wire. They basically work like a torsion bar, by twisting. When they are coiled up into a spring it kind of hides this fact. But the longer the length of wire (ie more coils in the spring for the same length), the larger length of wire that the twisting force is applied to, so the force is spread over a larger area thereby decreasing the rate. Trying to twist the wire is harder if the wire is shorter :)

There is also a darn good chance that all of Tamiya's springs are made from the same thing.................spring steel. :D

Soooo.....as long as the wire is the same diameter, you are guaranteed that these springs are softer than the original Egress springs. The re-design of the Egress front suspension seems to have some far-reaching effects.

Sorry but Spring Steel is actually a family of metals with a few common properties but varying compositions. So two wires of the same diameter can have completely different stiffness, hardness, etc. depending on composition. Does Tamiya only use one specification of Spring Steel? I don't know; maybe they do and maybe they don't.

Most likely these springs will be overly soft for the original Egress spring position. The further you move the lower shock mounting inward, the stiffer the spring must be to support the car properly. I would like to see these front springs side-by-side with the originals. They look to have a half-coil more wire than the originals which will definitely make them softer.

They are quite soft but they look so pretty :) As my Egress's are all shelf queens, the softness of the springs don't matter to me, its all about the look :)

I spent last night prepping my electrics for installation tonight. And now that I'm getting tantalisingly close to running this baby, its dawned on me...I don't want to flip it at any point and trash those lovely shocks and that shiny shock tower, so I came up with a solution!

http://tamiyaegress.com/?p=256

Only issue is, I have no way of making these parts, short of going down to the local steel works again, but that cost me an arm and leg for the BF8's and BF9's, Hmmm, now looking for a way of getting these made!

? Why , it's a re re & you can get parts . That's the hole point of a re re , get it dirty & rough it up a bit .

Buy them bits for spears , it's a runner so run it . << & this is me saying this , That won't run his avante re re  .

Need to get another one of them ( gulp ) . But the Egress , I am going to run & run it hard .

I think if its a runner, it's inevitable to have a scratches everywhere.

It's time for mheald to mass produce the BF8&9s bundled with blue adjusters & front shock tower and send them by post. Profits can be diverted to a new Egress instead :D

How about getting a piece of channel section and cut a slice the size you want and drill the necessary holes? Alternatively, you could use aluminium sheet and just bend it to the right shape. Since it is a guard, it doesn't need to be thick.

If the hi-caps become more widely available on the parts front, then why worry - a set of hi-caps all round is ca £40.

You could probably find some lexan offcuts from the corner of the shell mould , or the base of a 2litre drinks bottle that you could attach as shrouds with the top shock bolt.

looks butt ugly to me - might as well just duct tape the lot before running if you are so concerned - won't look any worse and easy to remove for the shelf display afterwards

Or perhaps something like this would work ?

I used to have those on my Vanquish Evo back when I used to run it. I used some picture hanging hardware I had lying around. I cut off the end that is double bent and bent the section with the center hole down 90*. Then I bolted them onto the shocks just as you have. Worked great until I shelved the model. This was LONG before they had re-issue hi-caps though. Now that I think about it, I was running Kyosho golds at the time.

I think for the rears I just cut both ends off so I only had a simple L shape.

I used the one in the center:

Oh yeah, batteries guys, they basically don't fit!

I had to butcher the battery retainer to make this very basic HPI 4500mah stay in. Basically, it'll only hold the smallest of 7.2v batteries. If you're thinking of sticking a lipo in, test someone else's to see if it fits first. Space is at a premium here!

Your kidding Right ?.

I think we would all like to see the re release of the Egress 1st , In your hands .

They have not do that yet & you are asking for this . How dear you :D ..

Come on just release the Egress 1st & then lets talk about black edition as they may skip

the Egress all together , the way it's going sadly .....

All they would do is add tit screw's & motor , then have different stickers . Most of this

should have been in the egress . Well i think it should have :D .

Hopefully we all will have our long awaited Egress, but as Tamiya Era say's it's important have plans for the next big thing :-)

I guess there is allot more stuff they could have done with the Egress if the made an Black edition. All they have to do is to have a look here at the forum, to see all the different mods that people have done to their Egress. looking at kontemax's runner Egress and at Tamiya Era's Egrevante should give them some idea :-)

Cheers buddy! I always do two coats and if the colour needs it, a third. My first coat is a dusting and the second is thicker. Always worked in the past and uses most of a PS tin. The finish turned out really nice on this one too. Spent 1 1/2 hours on the decals as I was being super careful :) Almost seems too nice to run now, but I think it has inspired me to ensure I buy a second, solely so that I can run this and rest safe in the knowledge that I have another ;)
