Ouch, just finished my Avante 2011 (this story is Egress related), zipped it down the drive, clipped a wheelie bin at a very slow speed and snapped the front knuckle clean in two. Advice to all Egress builders, buy the aluminium knuckles asap, you're going to need them if you so much as touch anything!

Dammit.

My Vajra ones were terribly soft , guess egress rere will be the same. I have the yeah racing ones on the vajra and a spare set aside for egress.

yeah i know, how about using tread lock?

Treadlock is probably risky with soft screws like aluminium or titanium.

I'd Loctite for stainless & black steel screws but on Avante/Egress

you've got the undertray stopping screws fully backing out too.

Have never Loctite'd grubscrew in pinion, should never need to if its properly on the flat.

The 2 screws bolting motor plate to gearbox plate... I'd change to hex heads

as they're easier to hold on tip of driver and guide thru from afar.

It was probably due to your weird driving technique. ;)

This is a gold alloy knuckle Mark? Ouch, and to think the cast ones were made of Porcelain. Well, stay away from those bins mate, may have a look at the Yeah Racing ones, can't be any more slop in them than the Tamiya units surely lol.

No, the knuckle is the plastic part that pivots on the gold upright as the steering servo turns back & forth. The Avante knuckles are a pretty terrible design by modern standards. Even by vintage standards.

yeah there's a heap of leverage on a spidery plastic part... usually the

steering lever bit snaps off before the main bit holding the bearings

old plastic probably more brittle too... & aren't you guys in cold winter?

But if you change to alloy, breakage will just move up the line.

The potmetal O-hub used to deform, front arms might rip the mounts off the gearbox.

Ahhhh, now i see what you mean, the plastic. Yeah could be temp related, its very cold here making parts like that super brittle. Used to run a Ttech Pred in these conditions, needless to say, not for very long

Predator probably an improvement over PB Mini Mustang... even its dogbones were plastic :)

ahh good ole British design

On the old Egress i just run a weakest slowest servo (S3003 i think) and a loose spring on servosaver.

With that much leverage, any tiny bit of slop will be magnified anyways so abandon any hope

of "precise" steering... its more like an MGTC - point the wheel where you want to go... & pray.

The old cars also had a "practice" bumper provided.

Your not, supposed to grease the tyres???

Lee

Ignore them, you need a full tube of ceramic grease on each tire before venturing out, it's a must ;)

Sod's law that part breaking. I've got about 10 bazillion egress/vanquish/avante parts spare but not the part I need. Just gonna have to sit pretty until the aluminium replacements arrive.

You didn't mention which side... just curious! :)

Back 10y ago when I was sorting out a mountain of parts to rebuild a fleet of Avante,

found I had a bunch of C sprues all missing 1 knuckle... I think it was the left.

If you're really desperate the knuckle seems to be ok to superglue at the break,

then slather the outside with epoxy. Holds well enough if you don't hit anything.

BTW,

If you all noticed, all the plastic parts from A ~ Z are reinforced type compared to vintage and they are indeed hard plastic type. So I dont think you will face any issue especially with part C unless riding like mad...:')

BTW,

Tamiya had done some minor mistakes in their manual in which i am going to highlight these points today ;)

In Egress 2013 Manual :

-Step 18: there must be a washer in which screw 3x20 goes into it but this step missing it and if you see step 20 and focus on this, you will see a washer is there!!..

-Step 21 , it says: Turn upside down but it is in same position and not turned upside down..lool and if you see in the next steps, you will see it is turned upside down ( the center circle should be beneath )
