this may sound a little strange as most people would like more speed but for the time being i actually need to slow a model down ! ive recently purchased a re re hornet , which is running its stock 540 and whatever pinion that tamiya supplied , the radio is a hitec ranger 3 , 40 mhz ( with the quickstart on the rear case ) , ive turned the adjustable pot as low as it will allow , but its still too quick . what pinion would members recomend please ? the reason for slowing it down is its being used by our great gradchildren who are currently only five year olds . when they have mastered controlling the car i can slowly increase its speed !many thanks jon

Swap the motor out for a smaller 380 size motor, this will also increase run time.

I think you can use the lunchbox pinion?, with the motor plate from the lunchbox which will drop the top speed but increase acceleration?, not sure if that will work with the buggy sized wheels/ tyres.

Your best bet is to fit a high turn crawler motor . A 80t will slow it down nicely . No need to change pinions - just use the one you already have . When the little ones get a bit older then swop the original motor back in . Have a look on ebay . RCBitz have these motors in stock for £10.99 plus £3 P&P . You will get longer run times too .

I'm sure one TC member has used rubber bands to limit the throw on the throttle lever of the transmitter, adding sufficient tension that little hands can only use part of the available travel of the lever.

After that a crawler motor is a cheap way to do it, 80t might be a bit too slow after a 27t silver can, maybe a 55 or 65t ?

You might be right Dave - however RCBitz have the motors from 35T to 80T for the same price I posted .
