As per title, I'm shortly taking ownership of an early 1/12th ? pan car chassis. At present I can't quite pinpoint which model it originated from but I suspect its a Celica LB Turbo - 58009

So does anyone have any suggestions for bodies that will nicely fit this, either lexan or hard ABS - preferably Tamiya ?

Celica LB

Wheelbase = 209mm

Length = 380mm

Width = 176mm

Tamiya RM-01

Wheelbase = 201mm

Length = 349mm

Width = 165mm

Tamiya GT-01 Tamtech Gear

Wheelbase = 208mm (Adjustable)

Length = 356mm

Width = 168mm

So it is possible that some of the recent RM-01 bodies may fit, including:

Toyota Toms 84C

Mazda 787B

New Man Porsche 956

Or the gorgeous Porsche 936 Martini plastic body!

Or one of the Tamtech bodies, including:

Porsche 935 Martini

Porsche 934 Vailant

Porsche 934 Jagermeister

Ferrari GTO

Lamborghini Countach

Good luck!

Thanks Steve - that was pretty much the list I'd assembled too. Chassis has narrow/wide tyres so something like the 935 turbo or rm01 bodies would probably be better options

As I recall from previous Tamtech experience, the Porsches run a shorter wheelbase than the Ferrari. This is achieved by reversing the front arms ( or rear, cant remember ). Anyway, I think with good wheel & tyre choice you could get most of the above to look good.

Post pics when you do it though!!!

Some good news and some bad.

Its arrived and its not a Tamiya Celica LB chassis, in fact its not a Tamiya at all - explains why i couldn't quite match the chassi photos to the manuals :lol:

Its a Nichimo pan car chassis, complete with Nichimo wiper arm speedo, and perhaps later battery tray ?, to accept Tamiya 6V battery (included). It looks pretty good however. Quick scan of the TC gallery suggests it could be a Porsche 935, Corvette Muscle car, Lancia Stratos or the RX-7 Savannah. The Dunlop tyres would suggest the last option but the rims may not be correct.

The good news is its 200mm wheelbase so hopefully something Tamiya 1/12 will fit.

The slightly worrying thing is that whilst its complete, and the tyres look decent enough the rear wheels are not hex fit so it'll be a case of finding suitable tyres to fit existing rims if they fail or wear out.

Bit more research required but looking like an interesting project - yes, another one !

Its no looker but other than the dust and a couple of scratches underneath it's fairly tidy - the electronice will come out, probably replaced with small traxxas ESC and a 380 motor.

Jeez - look at that steering servo horn "linkage"; no chance of any steering slop there....

I always wondered what the rubber grommets in the Hobbyking servo horn bags were for - I think i finally have a use for them ;)

I ordered Tamtech Porsche wheels in the hope they would fit and therefore go down the Jagermeister / Vaillant 911 route; all to no avail since there was no way I could fabricate a new (wider) rear axle.

Oh well, after a bit of searchign and debating I've ordered the Bolink Kremer Porsche 935 body - it will hopefully look OK with the existing wheels. Just need to decide whether to go Martni stripe decals or a different period racing paint scheme.

Nice colour schemes. A pity you don't live closer, as I'd consider a swap on the tires (freight for me to you is in the order of $20AUD). I have the porsche wheel set on my chassis and would have considered a Pantera body if the wheels on mine didn't look too out of place. So my plan is to get the Porsche body set as well and paint in Martini Livery.
