Hi guys,

Seeing as the hornet is so indestructible, I often take it on sand dunes, on the beach etc with my son. When it came back recently the bearings were sooo jammed up I needed to throw them away and a friend of mine recommended that instead of replacing with simple metal ones, I should instead get rubber sealed ones?

I just wondered if anyone could recommend the exact best ones that I may be able to get, perhaps off eBay etc?

Many thanks :-)

I also use rubber-sealed bearings from rcbearings.co.uk in all the exposed positions on my off-roaders, and have found them to run smoothly with minimal maintenance despite frequent use in wet, muddy and occasionally dusty conditions.

Thanks guys! Does anyone know what the 'standard' size wheel bearings are? Is there such a thing with regard to all cars Tamiya and Samurai?!....

Thanks in advance as always!

Most (but not all) 1/10 scale vehicles use '1150' bearings (5x11x4mm). The Hornet uses lots of 1150 bearings and one '850' bearing as far as I can remember.

If in doubt about the bearing sizes for a particular vehicle, you can refer to the build manual in most cases.

1150 bearings are often available as whole sets of 24 pieces for TL-01 chassis cars, at an affordable price.

I think you might find this bearing chart useful:

Hi. I'm getting a hornet for Christmas and I've read here that it's a good idea to upgrade to ball bearings. Well, as I'll be putting it together over Christmas, I thought it would be a good idea to get the bearings ready before the build process starts and not have to order them half way through the build. Please, can someone tell me how many rubber sealed and metal sealed I will need? Or is there a complete bearing kit available that i could buy?

Many thanks

RCBearings.co.uk sell full sets of rubber sealed bearings for most Tamiya models. I use them in all my cars except my F1, which never ventures offroad and thus uses metal shielded bearings instead.

You can choose rubber seals or metal shields when you place your order. If your Hornet is going to see any offroad use, rubber seals would be best.

If you want a mixed set, you can always request that the 850 and 3 of the 1150s be substituted with metal shielded ones for inside the gearbox.
