SteveU30, Did you end up buying from Banzai? What was the shipping cost? I was just looking at getting a kit from them and the shipping for just the single kit, no extras, was more than double the cost of the kit.

Not yet mate but have just checked and the shipping cost on a Tundra is £70. Still by far the cheapest (providing I don't get hammered by customs).

I had a look at the hilux kit on banzai and there was a sneaky £94 postage added at the end of the checkout it didnt show until you get to the paypal page. I didnt order though was curious from thr cheap prices.

I would go with the Bruiser for many different reasons.

You will find that the bruiser takes a bit more skill to drive than the alternative, and even more so if you go vintage.

The bruiser is also a good heavier which adds an element of realism while trying to mud hawg or even turn sharply when in high gear.

good luck with you decision

thanks bruiser ive been watching them a lot on you tube and both look like the need some extra weight put in to stop the excess bouncing on the old cart spring suspension. im leaning towards the high lift though at this point :)

I think changing the leaf springs on the bruiser will make a hugh difference.

Is function over form....girls in high heeds look great but is murdering their feet....well maybe not a good comparison.

list out your considerations like purpose, cost, available replacement parts, durability, resell value...scope accordingly and the highest score gets to go home with you. Keep in mind you may still have doubt later. Solution...buy both.

Hilux Hilift is simply a fixed 4 wheel drive transmission with three speeds.

The Bruiser and re release has a 2wd or 4wd drive transmission allowing much better versatility.

Plus the bruiser chassis looks like a truck.

Go Bruiser, I've two original Mountaineers, the Re Release Bruiser, Tamiya F350, Hiliux Hilift and Tundra 3 speeds. If I had to keep only one it would be an original 3 speed.

Back when we were all speculating about the re-re-Bruiser, I recall a number of people saying that they felt the Hilift was actually a better runner than the Bruiser but the Bruiser was well 'The Bruiser'. I don't own either so I can't comment. Would love both but there is no way the wife would let me.

i recall that the international consensus about the release of the high lift was a bit of a disappointment for vintage 3speed fans.

Well, sure it was. It pretty much confirmed (at least it appeared that way back then) that Tamiya was never going to re-release the original 3-speed chassis again. Disappointment and disgust with an "all plastic" 3-speed reigned. I can remember being quite unhappy at the prospect of never again seeing a NIB 3-speed of old with a real metal frame, etc.. Although the Hi Lift was pretty tough and a decent handler.

But then, when the Bruiser was re-released in 2012, people remembered how... ahem... awful the original Bruiser handled. But it's still an amazing vehicle. I mean.. steel channel frame bent similar to the original 1:1 truck (rather than the BORING straight rails in the Hi Lift)? Yeah. The Bruiser LOOKS better than it handles, but then... it sits on your shelf 22 to 24 hours a day doesn't it? And it is actually improved vs the original in certain ways. Diffs in the axles, for example. That's a huge improvement for asphalt driving and you can still lock the diffs if desired. I still miss the RS750 motor, though.

One at a time, unless you already have 50 other models laying around the house than I can see why the Mrs. won't let you.

No, not 50 and the ones I have I keep out of sight, not hidden, but not where she would see them. Her view is that one RC car, plane, helicopter is one RC toy too many.

Funny Stuff. My wife makes me keep my rc stuff confined to a custom built curio type cabinet

The more I read these posts, the more I appreciate my wife. She doesn't mind where I put my cars as long as I don't mind where she puts hers. As it is though, we both like a reasonably tidy house, so our cars usually migrate to their respective shelves in the guest room eventually. That is not to say they can't also sometimes be found on the diningroom table, in the bath or in pieces on the livingroom floor!

There is one thing worse that the wife's disapproval of my hobby and that is when the monster-in-law comes to stay! That one will decide to reorganise all my spare parts into some unconceivable place.
