I normally list my surplus R/C stuff on the TC trades for a while before it goes on ebay - and then I only list on FLD's.

Strange thing is that quite often for items sold through ebay, the purchasers turn out to be TC members and end up having paid more than the price the item was advertised for on the trades listing.

I always check TC trades first for anything I'm after before going over to ebay - other TC'ers take note !

Buying from TC trades as a paypal gift doesn't give you the same protection as buying from ebay. I know some members that would rather use ebay to buy.

I'm having no luck whatsoever with tc trades. In the last year I can't think of a single sale. What's frustrating is that when i list on eBay its often a tc member that buys and more often than not at a higher price then when listed on tc. However I recently tried to sell a few willys wheeler stuff on tc. Not one single contact . went on ebay and got sod all for the parts (new tyres sold for I think about £14 and less my fees. I had some really rare stuff used to have people clamoring for em. I'm not fussed just glad another corner of the loft cleared. Just not sure it was worth the hassle.

I agree the amount of used stuff on eBay is a lot less now. I can't be bothered with low value stuff now. I'll either keep it in a box waiting for the next tc event or job lot a sale or bin it.

more than once, after selling a few things on ebay and using the funds to buy other things i found myself in the position of having to sell other things just to cover the ebay fees. which in turn generated more ebay fees. it almost felt like indentured servitude at times. granted, my favorite thing about ebay is that there is at least some ability to control the timeframe in which something will be sold - rather than it being completely open-ended. but those fees have definitely felt usurious at times.

I never realised it cost the sellers quite so much! I occasionally look at TC Trades but since many are liked to their ebay sale, I often bypass TC Trades altogether. I guess I should pay more attention to what people post in the TC Trades section. So, for my part, sorry.

There is a work-around to keep both parties happy. The buyer makes a 'normal' paypal payment so they're still covered by paypal protection, then a small gift to cover the fees.

That may well be the case but since @ TC you all have members with a long lasting reputation, i have never seen that as a potential risk. The opposite, i would rather sell to and buy from a TC member than from ebay, even if i am still quite new inhere.

Interesting, never thought of that one ! Good idea if maybe you are dealing with someone for the 1st time ?

Am learning that this is the way forward. It galls me to let ebay have all of our money when like you I tend to only buy and sell off TC members.

Some don't get into the spirit of it being a 'club'.

I have been stitched up on 4 occasions. Considering the amount I've bought through TC, that is a very very small percentage though.

Always good to be cautious.

These are fair comments J.W, I've defintely felt a bit 'Tucked Up' with a couple of purchases through the forum.

I put it down to being a newbie and being inexperienced though.

And to be fair I now know more of the right questions to ask and the right prices to pay.

I quite often ask people selling on eBay if they are on TC. Sometimes they are and we end up dealing outside of eBay as simply mentioning TC adds a layer of trust in my opinion. There's something about being an enthusiast that adds integrity don't you think?
