Hi All

A colleague and I were discussing our old radio controlled cars from the 80s and 90s today such as my Optima Mid Turbo SE and we both remembered something which we need help on to keep our sanity in check...

Back then we used to soak our sponge tyres in something to make them last longer and have an almost sticky feel but we can't remember what it was?

I have check online and came up with no answers.

We were guessing along the lines of oil, creosote or something like that (I am sure it was not good for you!)

Can anyone remember what it would have been that we used to soak them it?

I have heard of a thing called "Oil of wintergreen" in the US used to treat spongies, but no idea what it is. Chirs Chianelli mentioned it in passing in RCCA back in the 80's.

When I raced 1/12 Circuit cars and Mardave Mini-stox back in the late 80's - early 90's I used to coat the tyres in 'Tractite' . It was dreadful stuff that used to make your lips burn with the fumes!!! I think it got outlawed by the BRCA later with the 'Wintergreen' additives mentioned in the previous post.
