how many do you have

Recommended Posts

Hello,

The much larger question here is this:

If you have over 5 models, are you married and/or with kids? If so, please share with the rest of us how you get away with it all. :D

Happily married for 7 years, no kids. She's cool with my hobby, even if she thinks it's silly. What's funny is that I've shown her pictures of some people's NIB collections, and she told me, "don't you dare spend that much on something you're just going to leave in a box!" I told her, no worries, not my thing.

The only way I can is that my wife is an artist and paints all my shells. I also have taught her and the boys how to race, so she puts up with it because it can be a "family event". While not her favorite, she partakes.

I have the following:

1. 2 Super Fighters - DT-02

2. Rising Storm - DF-02

3. Mad Bull (by far, our favorite)

4. Toyota 86 - TT-01E (just built)

5. Nova Fox (in the mail)

Yep happily married with 2 kids...both boys, one is just old enough for RC and already has his first 4 RC cars/trucks lol, the youngest has a keen eye on them too :)

I also collect arcade machines and retro video games, around 450ish at the last count, so my RC collection feels like less of an issue alongside all that lol. The logistics of this situation go like this. I have an office for my business...the business occupies about 5% of the space, my collections occupy the rest...and around 70% of my home loft space too ha haaaa. She has no issue with it all as it never really encroaches on our lives. If my arcades or cars made steps towards being displayed at home, this situation would change, rapido ;)

I am happily married, no kids or plans to have any.

I introduced my wife to the hobby years ago, by building her a truck of her own, and involving her in the decoration of the shell. She really liked it, but thought it too pretty to run, so it became a bit of a shelf queen. However when she saw how tough, capable and affordable my Rising Fighter is, she got one of those, and now drives it regularly. If anything, she is now more into the driving side of the hobby than I am!

Now that she knows first-hand how much fun the hobby is, and now that it has become a thing we do as a couple, she is very much on board with growing our respective collections. Come to think of it, half my models were given to me by my wife as birthday, Christmas and anniversary presents. :)

I wonder how many people here have to keep a spreadsheet to keep track of them. I think if you have a spreadsheet, you must be single. lol.

Happily married here with 2 boys (4 months and 3.5 years) - the 3 year old has his own Midnight Pumpkin and Clod Buster (thats what I am telling the wife anyway!) and is getting to grips with driving them. She doesn't mind - she does think I have enough cars though - but what she doesn't know wont hurt :)

Married with a 5 year old girl and a 2 year old boy... I have spent the last year insulting, lighting and heating my shed so I can keep all my boxes out of the way (and it is easier to feed new things in without her noticing)!

I am always trading so my collection stays static at about 5/6 pieces. Over the years I have learnt that I love the scale hard plastic bodies the most so apart from the 959, which was my dream car as a kid, all the rest are ABS and not lexan.

At the moment I have...

Hard runner

- Wild Willy 2

Gentle runner

- 959 built out of parts with ***** shell (sits in pride of place but ready for a run once a year on a beach)

Restoration project / money pit

- 58028 Hilux

NIB

- Lancia 037 (waiting for lovely new aluminium wheels from RCChannel and this will be my Christmas break build)

In the post

- Ltd edition Black Porsche from a fellow TCer

On the wishlist

- Leopard 2A6 (I have built a King tiger which I sold and now fancy some modern armour) and the only non-Tamiya I am interested in, the RCModelex Land Rover D110 in full Camel Trophy spec.

I've just finished culling Handsets,recs, chargers, etc,etc.

So I'm now focusing on bringing the over enthusiastic buying of cars down to a managable level, so far I think I sold about 24 and I have about 29 left, give or take 1 or 2.

The aim being to get closer to maybe 20 or so.

Currently I have about 60 RC cars. About 55 of them are real vintage collectibles. but still increasing. Good idea, I should make a full list for better overview...
