I don't own either but I was wondering if it would be a fair race or is one better than the other. I always liked the idea of vintage races and these models seem to fit the bill. I'd think the RC10 would win but...Thoughts?

Not even close RC10 will destroy the fox.

Not only in handeling jumping and evry other aspect of racing but also will not break and will not wear and last longer than a fox doing it all.

I agree with this. When I posted, I meant that I have an emotional attachment to the Fox (had one as a kid), and I have no such attachment to the RC10 (yet ;-)). If I remember correctly though, back when both were originally available, the RC10 was more than twice the price of the Fox.

I still used to regularly beat this other guy's RC10 at our local track with my Fox though. Just sayin'. ;-)

OK so the RC10 is a superior race buggy compared to the Fox, then what vintage Tamiya would give the RC10 a run? An Astute, Top Force, Madcap? and do you think a DT-02 chassis car could hang with a RC10?

If you are talking the same era as the gold pan RC10, then I don't think Tamiya made anything close. The closest Tamiya came to matching the RC10 in 2WD was the Dyna Storm, but that was released in 1992, and was still ultra fragile compared to the Associated. The Astute wasn't bad (and predated the Dyna Storm by a couple of years), but by the time it launched the RC10 had evolved too.

I think the only 2WD buggy that Tamiya have made that equals the RC10 in the same era is the TRF201.

The Fox is a charming basher with great scale looks, but as you can see in other threads, it has some serious handling issues.

The RC10 redefined the racing scene at the time.

It's like asking which is a better racer; a Ferrari F1 or a VW Van ;-)

I had the RC10 and I bet my $$ it spank and will put a classic beat down on tamiyas modern dt02 hands down and it's still probably more durable than the DT02!

I guess 26 world championship wins by AE suggests something, for a long time, they only made the RC10, so it is responsible for most of those 26. If I had to choose which one i could have though, Fox wins for me, more significant to my earlier years ;)

While the RC10 is understandably the best 2WD buggy of the 80s, there were other cars during that era that could keep up with, and beat, the RC10. We're talkin late 80s here:

Kyosho Ultima and its variants (Pro, Turbo, Pro XL, etc.)

Team Losi JRX-2. JRX Pro

Kyosho Triumph

The Ultima won the 1987 IFMAR world championship, but only for 87

The main thing to remember is that a Fox runs and handles one way, but an RC10, on which absolutely everything is adjustable, can be made to handle any way you want. So while you can definitely mess up an RC10 by adjusting things too far out of whack, there isn't much you can do without major changes to improve the Fox.

Actually the Fox really stuck it to the RC10 here in Australia in silver can class

The Fox was half the price. Light & agile.

Not saying that they always won but gave the RC10 a really hard time & at times did win in the hands of a good driver. :):)

Any other class more powerful the RC10 was gone :P

Aaaah the Ultima was a very underrated machine indeed. Won the worlds in the hands of Magic Joel Johnson as pizzachaude said.

I believe some of the boondall guys are planning this very race ;)

Right on Dave.

Plan to do a video with a RC10, Nova Fox and a Modded Frog all running a silver can. Going to be a ripper race. :)

My heart says Nova Fox. My head says RC10.

and my money is on RC10:-)

actually depends who is doing the driving...A 10 year old with his boy racer could beat me.:-(

The silver can which shipped with the fox was a slow motor. Really horrible. If the fox is set up correctly, and a decent motor put in it, it screams and will handle.

My brushless fox is retarded fast and with the suspension dialed in, it's stable and turns very well.

The RC10 was a racer out of the box, while the fox was more of a scale buggy. Put a little attention into either, and they are a great racer.

A grasshopper hopped up to the max with a MASSIVE silvercan 540 would thrash them both...We all knew someone that thought like this as a kid didn't we? ;)

Yup, a classmate bought bigger spark plugs for his moped to make it go faster. :-D

HI!... I own both and the two cars are not even in the same league. The RC10 is a full out race car. That's what it was designed and built for. It was more for the older RC enthusiast. The Fox was a novice RC car. Put them both on the same track with excellent drivers and the RC10 will totally destroy the fox.
