Im not sure why the king cab line of trucks aren't more popular on here. I remember re-reading the RC Car Action article on the Monster Racer dozens of times when it came out (anyone got a scan?). I got the truck that Christmas, 92? I built it in two days. Loved it! Same good trans as the Astute (I never had any issues, maybe I know how to fallow instructions :) ), seemed bullet proof. I tossed in a Novak Brushless this past year when I picked the truck up from my parents place. Still rips, still tough! Amazingly it handled my local tracks stadium truck geared layout well. Anyway, nothing is broken, needs a cleaning, and a rebuild. Ill keeping the original and crack free body and paint. My Dad painted it for me years ago. I got some over spray on it years latter painting an Astute body, alcohol should fix that. The only thing I need to source are some NIB decals and rear tires. As it sits now. http://imageshack.com/i/m90bdgj]0bdg.jpghttp://imageshack.com/i/0uaiz6j]aiz6.jpghttp://imageshack.com/i/5gi0uyj]i0uy.jpghttp://imageshack.com/i/0f1iz9j]1iz9.jpg

The best car Tamiya ever made!

Max

Really?

I've never had a chance to drive one of these. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen one in person, but I've always thought they were awesome.

Is this chassis shared with the Stadium Blitzer and Blitzer Beetle?

What the heck? Just a few weeks ago Evilbay had tons of decals, now there are none! The rear tire are pretty elusive too, the last thing on my list is the the aloy bracket for the transmision, the stock one is platic and it has lasted all these years years but I'd like the insurance of the metal bracket. Do any of you have leads for any of these items?

Do you have a pict. of that metal bracket? got a Monster Hilux too. thx

Or is this the one you mean

No more decals, guess I was lucky to get one then :)

Tires are hard to get, I do have a full set of slicks though ;)

Nice shocks btw, had that in mind too, maybe some rere hope they will be available again after the egress rere.

The bracket was for the idler gear, in your pic it is the black bracket that you can barely make out behind the spur gear. With hot motos the bracket is known to break.

How do you guys restore the shine to chassis and plastic parts? Luckly I have no scrapes or blemishes. Just 20 years worth of dirt and grime.

Awesome that you have had it since new, it looks very tidy! :)

I love these, I want to get another to make into a runner.

Never had an issue with the idler bracket either. Do people melt them or break them?

edit: love the "slicks", I remember doing that as a kid with emery paper, seemed a shame to throw them out

I've still got mine and it's mint. I never used the original tyres, kept them for display. I bought a set of spare wheels and a set of Schumacher tyres which fitted a treat to use on the odd occasion.

schonbacher, I have all the gears except the diff, let me know if you're interested. Also have some other King Cab parts if you need anything else.

Dont want to steal somebody else's thread but if any of you have decals for the King Cab I am interested

No other Tamiya car has been funnier like the King Cab in my personal experience.

This is mine:

Holy cow they still make the brace, ordering two! Thank you for the link. Nothing today, well I cleaned the wheels and tire. the real break down begins tomorrow.

It's all broken down now, I rebuilt the diff today, now I have a spare too. Again I never had one issue with these diffs. One diff has 1 shim one has 3. Both feel great. Seeing how I plan on running all of my classiscs now with 540 sports they should last for a good while.

Parts after a cleaning, more still have to be cleaned before the build starts.

Hey, stop it, you guys make me want to get a King Cab to replace the one I had years ago!! ;)

Great thread GTodd, your Hilux looks to be in great condition, looking forward to seeing it restored to glory.

These are the Pro Line Tractagator tires. They are no more produced... only these ugly minipins tires... :'-(

Since we're invading...

Finally some progress, I guess I shouldve named this "The Thorough cleaning and refresh". The rebuild has started, I used a new D7 that Ive had for a few years now. The truck will use all new D parts, just because there is no sense to keep them un-used. What is the diameter and width of the wheels? Does anyone know of a suitable onroad/light offroad tire that I can mount on my spare set so I can use this on my drive way and side road?

Assembly has begun.
