I know Darryn (retroRacer) is too modest to blow his own trumpet so I'd thought I'd give him a mention, as this is just too cool to pass by without comment[:)]

Just sat down and read his articles for Hi Torques RC Car magazine on the Viper and Mustang and I must say I'm impressed. Turns out Darryn really does know what he is talking about [;)] Hats off to you mate, I'd struggle to write a paragraph about everything I know about the technical aspect of Rc cars, thier handling etc etc - I'm very much a simple build them and run them, and only replace bits if they break, man.

OK its a bit light on reference to Tamiya and Tamiyaclub, but we'll forgive you as I'm sure your just getting your feet under the table. What other articles you got in the pipeline?

Made me wonder if anyone else knows of any magazines that regularly run articles on vintage RC models? I know Emmanuel(LeMansRC) writes for a french magazine, anyone else a published author or can just recommend a good vintage read?

This magazine was the first RC magazine I've ever bought. Never liked to pick them up before in the paper shop for fear of people laughing and pointing at the old bloke with the toycar magazine. Got away with it this time though by hiding it inside a porn mag. Must less embarrassing [;)]

Rich Truijilio (sp?) writes occasionally for I believe it is R/C Car action. Whenever they do their get together in a canyon for rock climbing he usually brings his Bruiser and some other people with theirs, he takes pictures and does the write up.

Chris,

What is the name of that magazine? Do they ave any content, or more specifically, any of Darryn's content online or failing that I wonder if available in the USA?

[:I] - Thanks for that stella announcement Chris. I try to make the articles good for anyone to read.

I must say I was well shocked when the editor Frank Masi contacted me about taking over the Vintage R/C column from Richard Trujillo. Richard's race schedule, (he is Team Losi Race Team Manager), is extremely hectic to say the VERY least. To continue to do the job that vintage R/C deserved, Richard decided to step away and let someone else take the "reigns" (or transmitter! [;)]), of the column. I was asked and did not take too much convincing to do a "brain dump" once a month about a vintage classic car - you all know how much I love these old treasures

In answer to your questions about what cars are coming up - I cant say too much, however my first Tamiya vehicle based article will be coming soon. I have already written 5 articles (5 months worth)....I hope everyone finds something interesting in there.

Mike - in answer to your questions it is this website :

http://www.rc-car.com/default.asp

The magazine is based in the US - and is called R/C CAR.

One of the reasons I agreed to taking over the writing of the articles each month was because the magazine is not any where near as "flowery" - "this car is awesome" type magazines. No one wants to read that the new Tamiya TL-01 is gonna win the next world champs because it is just so awesome!!. They call a spade a spade..not harshly - but fairly.

The articles I write are critical in some areas - and lets face it I would be lying if I said only good things about all cars I review.....you wanna hear the "dirt" as well dont ya??" [:D]

As for picking up toy car magazines - it could be worse - your Mrs could ask you to pick up the "womans weekly".....[;)]

Any questions or comments guys - I am all ears !

Cheers

ok, fine

It is a great read and Darryn is obviously very knowledgable..

1 thing though Darryn, let the people know a little about yourself.

We need some history about you, where you are from, why people should belive you, that sort of thing.

not too much name dropping though !!

I dont know if the magazine is really interested in that sort of thing. I did have a "second page" introduction in the november issue - however nothing to in depth.

As to whether or not people want to beleive in me - well that is up to them. Fact is fact !! [:D]

I could drop names like Masami Hirosaka, Cecil Schumacher, Jay Halsey etc etc - but that means nothing - I may have met and talked with alot of people - but that was back "in the early days" - so most people find little relevance in the stories...as it stands I reckon people think stories like that are just people "big noting" themselves.....not something I want thought of me! [V]

As it stands - I dont know how much longer I will write for the mag...

Cheers

Darryn, I applaude you too on the real life reporting of the cars. Ever considered writing for Road and Track, just kidding, keep the toy articles coming. I asked for a subscription to this magazine for Christmas just for the articles from Darryn.

If anyone can help me out with an old article from the '80s by XActo brand knives. It has a partial picture of a YELLOW HotShot with its wheels taken off and it shows XActo's knife and screwdriver set. Darryn has a pic on jpeg if he would post it here, someone could see it and then send me a real life copy. Thanks and I am enjoying the club immensely.
