Twmaster 1 Posted March 15, 2003 As mentioned above, tapping. The manuals for a couple of my Tamiya cars list the screw as part MA5. I am going to be rebuilding a few of my recent arrivals and want new screws! Cheers,
jerzirccar 0 Posted March 15, 2003 To what car was the screws for[] Jerry
Twmaster 1 Posted March 15, 2003 Jerry, these particular screws fit too many cars to list. I have several buggies that need fresh hardware (Hornet, GH, Mad Bull, etc.) these are the same hardware on all of these and my on road cars too. Cheers,
jerzirccar 0 Posted March 15, 2003 HI! In the ESCORT RS COSWORTH,ALFA 155,CELICA GT-FOUR RCC,BMW SCHNITZER the screws are called BA3(3x10mm tapping screw) in the ferrari F40,MAZDA 787B,HONDA NSX the screws are called BB6(3X10 TAPPING SCREWS). Are these something you are after. Jerry[:I]
Twmaster 1 Posted March 15, 2003 Yea Jerry that sounds like the bits I seek. Silly of Tamiya to not standardize a part name huh?
jerzirccar 0 Posted March 15, 2003 If you are looking for those then I can fix to you. Let me see to next week what I can offer you. Jerry[]

Whacky 0 Posted March 15, 2003 I have found Tamiya uses different 3x10mm Tapping screws. On my TL01 they are silver and made of iron (i think). The ones that come with the TB01 and TA04 are BLACK and made out of a very hard steel (My dremel had a hard time cutting them). But in the manuals they all have the partnumber 50577. As these cost 3 Euro for 10pcs i went to the hardwarestore and bought 30 for 0.90 euro. They where 3x16mm but i dremeld them down to 10mm and fit perfect. -Whacky. Twmaster 1 Posted March 15, 2003 Thanks Whacky, Yes you are right the cost of these screws from Tamiya is insane. The problem I have is here in the USA I cannot buy metric fasteners (other than some larger hardware like bolts etc.) in the hardware store. I'll do some poking about online I guess. aconsola(2) 0 Posted March 21, 2003 from what I can see, your best bet for self tapping hardware is to pick up a clodbuster screw bag b, part#9465189 which has: 38 3X8mm self tapping screws 43 3X12mm self tapping screws 54 3mm flanged nuts all for $5.50, which comes out to $.04 per piece, which is on par with what you'd pay for hardware in bulk. The clod Bag A,part # 9465188, Has a nice assortment of machine threaded screws for under $5 -Anthony
Twmaster 1 Posted March 21, 2003 What a splendid idea! I will order these from my LHS tomorrow. Thanks for the pointer!
SJoerD 2 Posted March 22, 2003 Where can I easily get hold of 'gold' M3 screws with philips 2 heads, as used on a Bruiser and actually most modern Tamiya cars? I can't really seem to find them, other than order a bag of about 10 from Tamiya and paying their high prices... [?] The 'Tamiya' screws also had a extra slot in it, to fit in a '-' screwdriver. I'd like my screws to be origional as possible. []
Twmaster 1 Posted March 28, 2003 I just got the screw set in from my LHS and all of the self tappers are the gold finish like you need Sjoerd. And thanks to Aconsola for the tip on the Clod screw bag. These are exactly what I wanted. Thanks so much!! []
SJoerD 2 Posted March 29, 2003 Yes, but the ones I need are not the self-tapping ones... []
