First retro car purchase

Hi all, I've just bought a NIB original Hornet at the weekend from a collector. This is my first ever purchase of a retro classic. I did think about keeping it in the box, although temptation got the better of me. I decided that as I'll never sell it, I may as well just make it and enjoy it for display purposes.

This is the model I had when I was about 11 years old. It's pretty amazing seeing it on my shelf at home all sparkling new again. Last time I had one it was dirty and covered in scratches.

well GTA it's all downhill from here now. sure it starts out as a hornet. soon you will be trying to get some SRB chassised cars then you start to want a hilux and bruiser. Your best bet is to send me that hornet now [] and consider your self lucky as you will save a lot of money this way.

I was only gonna get a original Wild Willy when I first started less than a year ago...then I had to get a Sand Scorcher...and then some 3spds. I've concidered the XR311 & FAV lateley but actually had the willpower to not get any more cars, and actually turned down quite a few also(MonsterBeetle, BlackFoot, BigWig, Grasshopper I & II, Frog, Fox and then some).

lol - simensays, the ones you turn down are the worse! They return to haunt you about 12 - 18mths later.

In the early days of my collection I turned down all sorts of cars because I didn't like them, and almost without exception I've ended up buying them later usually at a higher cost, Willys Wheeler, FAV, XR311, 959, Avante we're all initially turned away by me because I didn't like them at the time [:I] About the only one I've never liked is the Frog. The day I end up with one of those im ny collection will be the day I call the men in white coats to take me away.[]

Chris that exactly happened to me on my Wild willy 1. I said I will never buy one of those. Even when I came across a whole bunch of parts I sold them off on epay. Then about a year later I decided that infact I wanted to get one. Luckily I ended up buying mine for a decent price. I was able to sell off the extra chassis and parts to help recoup some of the costs.

Ahhh the three theory. One nib, one shelf queen and a runner, then there is the parts car that gets restored as well. Rule number 1, never let the wife know what this addiction costs. She will probably want you to switch to drugs because it is cheaper. [)]LOL!! After the first innocent car, you start seeing them everywhere! That sounds like a good deal, I always wanted one of those, I wonder how this one will handle and Lord help you if there is a club and a track near by and you have even a little skill. I am up to 10 in 7 months and haven't even gotten really started. Three speeds, yes! Scorcher, absolutly! Porsche, you bet! Best wishes and welcome aboard. [8D]

what a funny read , shodog > explained exactly my past 10 months in this crazy world of collecting , gta i have to say mine all started for me with a nib hornet as i had one as a kid.(i resisted the temptation though) then i went on to a couple of others nib i had, then srb's then countach's and then a hilux , AND what did i go and buy the other day ! yes a bruiser,

But its all fun and when you get a bargain its one of the best buzz's i think .
