What can this be used for ?

is it for plastic type diff gears or only metal...I can't find any info showing what types of materials it is meant to be used on?

I put some in one of my cars plastic geared diffs and it does feel really good though.

I tell you what I cleaned out and degreased my pumpkin and hornet diffs and lightly painted a thin coat of the aniwear grease on the diff gears just a super thin coating and the diffs work so much better and feel very smooth kind of like a new age Rc with a diff you can fill with oil!!

Much better!

I believe all of Tamiya's grease is safe for plastics. Considering they are all used inside plastic gear cases. This stuff is great for open gear type diffs. It really helps to slow the diff action which helps put power down much much better in a turn. I would use a decent amount on any of the diff interal gears. Don't glop it on, but you definitely want more than an ultra thin coating. The stickiness helps to slow the diff considerably.

My tb03d came with some, it's used only on dogbone ends (where they come into contact with the cups)

For the ball diffs it came with (you guessed) diff grease

For all the rest (gears) with molibden grease

The antiwear is thick and sticky, not sure if any good on gears/diffs

I understand why Tamiya suggests AWG on the driveshafts for a sturdy lubricant, I am very much convinced it does more harm than good though on external parts of the car. It attracts anything that can stick to it which is why it is really good to tighten up a standard open gear differential because it is really freaking sticky.

There has been a lot of folks here that have suggested graphite or dry lubricants on your driveshafts which has worked pretty good for some of my cars. I run them all dry now though and it seems to be cleaner and wear doesn't seem any worse.

I concur. Keep everything on the outside of the car dry. TRF makes a blue drive-cup grease, but it's specifically for on-road racing where the cars get completely rebuilt after every match.

And definitely don't use moly grease for your plastic running gears. Ceramic grease or bicycle chain wax only. And even then, only a tiny bit.

- Ceramic - Thinnest - plastic running gears

- Ball Diff - Thin - for diff balls & plates only

- Moly - Medium - metal to metal running gears

- Anti Wear - Thick - gear diff internals & ball diff thrust bearings

There are also more expensive TRF specialty greases:

- VG Ball Diff grease - balls & plates only (higher temp range)

- VG Diff Plate grease - stick ball diff plates to outdrives

- VG Gear Diff grease - lubricates gear-diff seals for less leaks

- VG Joint Cup grease - on-road racing only

- VG Damper grease - for damper seals (like AE green slime)

- VG Thrust bearing grease - for ball diff thrust bearing (like AE black grease)
