Hi everyone,

Further to a recent thread, here are some pics of my Wild One that I finally got painted and 99% done. I still have to paint and install the driver but aside from that, the exterior is done.

I hope you like them!

As above, I think the wheels kind of spoil it, for such a scale-looking buggy. Also, isn't it going to be very fragile at the front now minus that bumper? Be careful!

Does it wheelie?

Bit harsh Arron !

Everyone to their own and i can see your thinking - the WO gearbox isn't the strongest so suggest you dial the punch setting down to a min and even take the motor timing down as much as possible on the programming.

you'll need 2WD front wheel rims - not sure whether the axle diameter on the Slash wheels is the same as Tamiya, but you should be able to take up any discrepancies with bearing choice.

For what its worth my sand paddles are probably marginally larger rear diameter as they virtually touch the battery end stoppers/guards

I think it looks cool.

To all the haters, I guess if he wanted he could always buy another ReRe WO and finish it in completely stock appearance - the beauty of the ReRe's!

If everyone had the exact same car life would be boring.

ok sorry for being so harsh . The body looks good but those wheels just don't cut it . Way too large IMO . The Wild One is a very scale looking buggy and really deserves some scale looking wheels . You've made a really nice Wild One - please don't ruin its looks for the sake of a decent set of wheels .

From the angle of your pics, I think the oversized wheels/tyres gives the WO a comical theme.

Sticking in the Wild Willy driver may complement it, and I mean that in a good way.

Willy's head will just about fit on the wild one driver figure moulding, although he does rub his helmet on the roof section, to the extent it will lift the roof section on the front left corner....

I think Percymon's proves you can put crazy looking rear wheels on as long as you put 'normal-ish' buggy front wheels and tyres on. As you said though David, to each their own.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Re the wheels - I looked EVERYWHERE to find this design with a smaller front wheel-width, but there was nothing that came close to the look of these SPECIFIC wheels, which I really like. It was simply a matter of supply and demand.... each to their own, I guess.

Ideally, I wish I could get the same center design with a slightly smaller rear tire and a slightly thinner front rim and tire but again, it's easier said than done.

I'm just not a big fan of the stock Wild One wheels, which is why I looked for the replacement.

Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to look at the pics I posted.

Have you seen the wheel design on the FAV which shares 90% of the design of the Wild One? I think those wheels and tyres are better looking than those on the Wild One so can see why you looked for an alternative.

Hello Sir . I really didn't mean to cause offence . I just have this habit of perhaps being too honest with my opinions . Hope you can forgive me that ?

Have you had a look at the Nova Fox wheels ? Somehow I think they would suit this perfectly and give you more tyre choice .

No problem from my side - it's a forum afterall and opinions are what I wanted!

Perhaps I'll just have to make a set of rims for it myself. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for aftermarket wheels?

The Fox/Nova Fox wheels are identical to the Wild One wheels except for being "gold plated" vs. white, so hardly an option.

Yes I'am aware of that but I think the gold would work well with this colour combination . Plus there more scale looking tyres that fit these wheels .

But then I don't understand how Fox /Nova Fox wheels would "give more tyre choice"?

Hi Zac,

I really like those Tamiya 2 piece wheels - the only problem is finding a matching, smaller set for the front and by any chance to do know where can I get tires to suit?

If you want to use wheels with the 12mm hex hub on the Wild One, the front uprights of the F103GT is an option. On the F103GT they are used instead of the regular F103 upright (same as on Wild One) to allow for regular touring wheels to be used. However, as the kingpin is in line with the axle shaft on the F103/Wild One upright, but in front of the axle shaft on the F103GT upright, the resulting wheelbase will be a few mm shorter and the steering rods will be swept back a little, so you might need to make the holes for the steering rods in the chassis slightly larger. There could possibly also be clearance problems between the upright and suspension arm resulting in a larger minimum steering radius.

Parts needed would be # 51229, 54343, 2 pcs. 2x10mm pins and 4 pcs. 850 ball bearings.

Check step 14 and 15 of the F103GT manual: http://www.tamiya.de/CommonFiles/Dickie-Tamiya/PDM_Products/Tamiya/300058367/300058367_Bauanleitung.pdf

Hi Zac,

Looking at them it would be easy enough to machine or sand them down . Then you could fit Sand Scorcher ect tyres on your front end .

Sand Scorcher tyres are 1.5's, those look bigger than that.

Yup my mistake . Maybe Buggy Champ ( Rough Rider ) size would be better . Across on Wandy's WO thread there's a link to some 1.7 centreline look a like rims that would suit this perfectly
