You will only need one UBEC as you're only powering the receiver with one of the ESCs.

yes, but I thought about getting more than one for other cars as I regularly run the dt-02 on 3s with my castle system although I think that has BEC.

It will be handy to have a couple.

Been working on a shell for the 4WD blackfoot, I know it's not right for the beetle to have 4wd but the blackfoot shell fits on the same body-posts so it's a straight swap.

Not swapped any electronics yet, still having blackouts but will try swapping some stuff out when I have time. (or will get a UBEC and try that.)

The paint looks better in the photos than it does in real life but that's fine as I wont worry about running it.

I had to try and cover the hole where the engine should be.

I liked that so I added another,

But still not keen on the rear end, : :(: I still have to fit the rear lights.

Thanks for all the help so far, if I have any more questions, I will be sure to ask.

Looks great. When I restored my King Blackfoot I put a Beetle shell on it as they survive rollovers well. I ended up with an extra front wheel and tyre that had a few splits in it. Fitted it just like you have and not only did it hide the obviously missing engine but it also worked like a wheelie bar and stopped the car back flipping.

Video didn't work for me, have you got a link to the clip?

Thanks Mr Crispy, try these links for the vid, although it worked for me when I clicked on it.

I thought the extra rubber on the back might work as an emergency brake  Shouldn't be any need for that yet with silver can power

I've only run it indoors, don't wanna get it dirty yet.

I don't know why I chose the colour scheme??

The spare tyres are an interesting addition to the rear end, but I can't help feeling that a fake engine would look even better. Baja owners are not shy about performing engine swaps, so you don't have to put in a flat four - any semi-decent looking engine will do. I have seen some possible candidates in poundshop toys, that could be made to look the part with a little bit of paint and a big exhaust...

Here's where I am,

I bought the blackfoot 3 kit with the intention of making it 4WD, kit was £110, ( but it comes with the hard blackfoot body. nice. :) )

Stainless steel wheel axle £4.50 posted

WR-02 gearbox £14.95 posted

20x 1150 bearings £10.00

Driveshafts/ dogbones £7.99

Gearbox joint set £4.99

0.6 mod 18 T steel pinion x2 £9.00

I had a couple of "o rings" in spares.

£52 We'll round it down in case the Mrs reads this, £160 total spend so far. Now I've just looked on modelsport at 4wd drive monster trucks and there is nothing at 1/10 scale at that price range. So I don't think it was overpriced at all. :)

Sorry to dig up an old thread but where did you buy your bits from? I have just taken my Mud Blaster II for a spin around the garden and come to the conclusion I need a ball diff or a second motor, second motor is wining the argument at the moment.

I have a fleet of dual hunters, mine, wifes and kids, I also, have a WT01 which imo is much more fun. The WT01 is brushless, the extra torque this has, and the ability to baloon the tyres means I don't really run into any problems where I wish I had 4wd.

I'm a huge fan of the WT01/WR01 chassis, one of the recurrent problems we had was steering servo failure, that was on the cheap acoms jobbies. I ended up fitting metal servo mounts and a jumbo futaba bb metal geared servo, which quells wheelies with the brushless and steering is awesome. On the kids cars, we have gone with standard size savox metal geared servos which are holding up well, I only mention it in case anyone else has had this.

As an evolution of this chassis, for xmas I just received a WR02 WW2 which I'm really pleased with so far, it's basically a swb version of a WT01. Curious they didn't call it a WT02? Anyway, it looks like the wheelie bar may fit perfectly on the 01 chassis.

Another observation regarding the dual hunters and WT01, the gears in the WT01 are like a black nylon, as opposed to the cream gears on the dual hunters. I wonder therefore if they strengthened the gears later in the evolution of the chassis.

Cheers

I can confirm the WR02 wheelie bar fits like a glove without modification and works perfectly on the WT01 :)

The WW2 front bumper also screws straight on and all the parts are on the same sprue frame!

Excellent, thanks. That looks great btw.

Something else I noticed earlier in the thread, I use HPI lipo's, the round stick 2s 4000mah ones, they fit perfectly in the battery tray on the WT/WR.

Ps, are they the CR01 wheels and tyres? If so, I was thinking of using them on mine to prevent tyre slip being beadlock, with the BL. Do they work well?

Thanks for that, is that the tamiya landcruiser shell you've used there?

Conveniently some of the redundant parts in the WR02 build are perfect spares for the WT/WR01's. Which is handy for me since myself, wife and kids all run this chassis for bashing.

Ps. Here's our WT/WR fleet, mine, the impreza is a brushless WT01 with jumbo servo, all the others are Dual Hunters.

Nice fleet you've got there.

That body was from the USA 2-3 years ago, advertised as an 80's era Jeep but it came unbranded and I haven't been able to find them again since. Needed something to replace the fugly Maverick Scout bodyshell :)

DSC02713.jpg

But when I used the Mav as a donor for a large scale Willis Jeep conversion I was left with the body and wheels... which eventually found there way onto a WT01 and worked really well.

That chassis has now been used as the base for my Aliens APC winter build project and currently looks like this :)

Its like watching evolution in action :D

That's the great thing with these Chassis', they are so adaptable and just about any shell can be made to fit. So you've gone 4ws. No idea what an aliens apc is lol. Those wheels look good too though! I'm wanting to put some beadlocks on mine, decisions decisions. Was tempted with a set of Axial or Fastrax 2.2 beadlocks or go with Tamiya CR01 hop up wheels.

It'll be the Armoured Personel Carrier from the film Aliens eventually :)

I had weighted the wheels in the Maverick and it helped to keep the WT01 right side up.
