With the theme of the Christmas Competition being parts this year, I wondered if I could come up with something that combined my favorite parts-sprue (the Wild Willy L-parts) with a few spares I had left over from fitting lights to the STUMPkin recently (pics to follow soon in that thread)...

So, using a single red 3mm LED, and some odd suspension parts, together with my usual Dremel & dollop of Isopon P38 combo, I set about creating this little fella...

DSCF2538_2_zps246a0694.jpg

Firstly, I must apologise now for the quality of the photos below - my decent camera is unfortunately away being mended, so I've had to make do with an older compact that isn't quite as sharp for the close-up stuff...

I started with a regular Willy head, and Dremeled part of the helmet away to replicate it having being smashed, and his face revealed:

I then mixed up some Isopon P38 and filled the gaps, then started to carve the facial features:

Including the peeled flesh around the eye socket! It was particularly tricky to shape the face underneath the helmet chin-bar...

With the shaping done and sanded, I drilled a 3mm hole through the left eye socket (to mount the LED), then it was time to paint in the details:

Right side - it's regular [human] Willy!

Left side - it's beaten-up cyborg Willy!

Nostril and mouth detail under helmet chin-bar:

Original face surface around the eye socket was painted silver, with the eye itself black - the filler 'skin' giving the effect of flesh peeling away:

Rear view - the LED sits snugly in the eye socket (it will ultimately be glued in), while an extra hole was drilled in the head base (and a corresponding one in the top of the neck of the body) for the wires to pass through:

Moving onto the arm (I chose the left arm/side of his face primarily as this is the side that would be seen most clearly if/when he was mounted in a LHD vehicle), I took a standard left arm part and initially removed the centre section around the elbow, making sure to leave enough material to attach the upper arm to the body, cutting roughly with the Dremel to replicate a torn sleeve:

The cyborg arm was constructed using two short suspension links (from some indeterminate source, in my spares box), and the joint bent to replicate the original bend of a standard left arm... To add further detail, and to also secure the bend of the elbow, I drilled two holes in the joint, and inserted a length of metal rod (steering arms), which stopped the elbow joint from moving once the filler in each part of the arm had set. I also felt it was more realistic [if not ghoulish!] to remove the forearm sleeve all the way to the glove, and have a bare arm sticking out:

So for now that is where I'm up to... I've mounted the head and arm on a plain body for my competition entry, but will of course ultimately paint him up in the usual distressed overalls etc.

Not sure on the colour scheme just yet - jeans and a black leather jacket would be the most authentic of course, but I'm not sure I'm dexterous enough to remodel the upper body into a jacket... so I'm currently toying with the idea of a grey overall, red seat belts and a chrome helmet - what say you?

In the meantime, Happy New Year everyone - and don't have nightmares!

Oh, and just one more [grainy, sorry] photo to show the effectiveness of the LED 'eye' in the dark... can't wait to get him behind the wheel of something post-apocalyptic!

Very cool work Jenny. I was reading your Fro Sco Baja showroom entries last night and admiring your handy work.

How does a Halloween Midnight Pumpkin sound for Cyborg Willy?

Or a Mad Max WW2 variant sound?

I'm sure you have plenty of good ideas already and I'm looking forward to the next build thread.

I need your clothes, your boots, and your M38 Jeep

Seriously though, (as usual) that is cracking work. How about sourcing a 'real' leather jacket from an action figure (or similar), you would probably have to cut it then sew it back together as there's no way you'd get his gloves through the sleeves but I reckon it'd look cool to have an actual jacket on him?

Excellent work Jenny. The picture in the dark looks superb. I do agree a midnight pumpkin themed body slammed street style could be sweet for this figure ala expendables style.

This is just so great and creative I can't begin to tell you!

Your molding skills are excellent as well, I have no idea how I would have gone about doing something like this.

One of the great benefits of so many creative people on here. We all learn, and see cool things being done, and this is cool!

Wow!
Cheers,

Skottoman

Thank you everyone for such positive comments! - I was a bit worried as I recall one showroom comment for my Joker Willy said their young son ran away in fear when he saw it... so goodness knows what he'd make of this one!

I like Steve's suggestion of a jacket from an action figure - although I wonder if that is not wholly in the spirit of things?

Fortunately I do have a number of spare Willy bodies now, so I think you've all inspired me to have a go at moulding a jacket collar (and T-shirt underneath) into the existing upper torso... let's see where we get to eh?!

More soon!

Thank you TK - as I'm sure you've realised, it's your work with custom Willy's that has inspired me to get all creative!

As for his wheels - something ratty is certainly on the cards - a rat-rod Pumpkin would certainly work (complete with a few bullet holes in the tailgate), although I also have a Jeep CJ7 shell sitting here - isn't that what Sarah Connor drove at the end of the first movie?

For the time being however, he may end up in the Fro-Sco - as I plan to fit lights onto that too... and in it's current state it does look like it's been sat in the desert rather to long! The perfect opportunity for another re-vamp perhaps?!

Very nicely done! I can't wait to see what he ends up piloting but I bet it's going to be a damage and weathering master class.

Almost certainly! (because if the truth be told, I can't paint smoothly for toffee!)

OK everyone... so, I put a bit of thought to how I might paint up TW2's body (or dress him, as SteveU30 suggested)... and thought, why not give it a go with a Dremel and see what happens?

To recap, I thought it would be nice to try and move away from the regular all-in-one race-suit, and try to make him more casual - while at the same time keeping the Terminator theme - leather jacket, boots, jeans... this is what I came up with (again apologies for crappy phone pics - still not got my nice camera back yet):

IMG_2258_zps6634df58.jpg

As you can see, I was able to Dremel away the front of his race suit and create an open neck - then used P38 to form some jacket collars...

IMG_2259_zpsc1cc63e3.jpg

The T-shirt is actually part of the original plastic body (fortunately it is nice and thick there), just sanded smooth, as is the neck - shaped/recessed by carving with a scalpel - and I added a dollop of P38 to make the ruffle of his buff/balaclava too, just to keep it as authentic as possible (the head still turns as required, as the chin and neck are not connected):

IMG_2261_zpsc3916199.jpg

Front on, the effect is very different from your usual Willy!

IMG_2262_zps8fcdb110.jpg

I just need to get him behind the wheel of something and that eye plugged in!

IMG_2264_zpscd2d9d95.jpg

I hope you like him!
