Hello guys,

What do people generally run on the back of their hornets? I use mine for a mix of grass and dirt but as it's my favourite runner I tend to play on the street with it too and this eats the rear tyres.

I would really like to keep the look of the car if possible so I am considering grasshopper tyres which look more robust but less grippy for grass and dirt?

So what are the options that will fit the rims? how much grip do the GH tyres give? I am guessing anything will be better than the slicks she is currently sporting

Grasshopper tires are less grippers on the asphalt.

I would suggest you Wild One rear rims and tires with GH2/Super Hornet adaptators.

Thanks guys,

Looking at the wild one rims which adapters would I need? I have a fire dragon that is currently running hex adapters and db03 wheels, would adapters be the same as the FD as I have some of those obviously.

p.s. still really fancy getting a brat... so many tamiya so little time... oh and a wife keeping an eye on the pennys

Would star dish wheels fit straight on with hex adapters? I am thinking there are more tyre options with them.

Hex adaptors and dt02 wheels seam to be the way forward, i am looking for wider wheels with low profile tyres and the general recommendation is street rover or blitzer beetle wheels.

If you go withhex adapters then you have the choice of hundreds of rims n tyres. 2.2" runs may be a bit too big diameter but perhaps some manta ray rims n tyres would be ok (they are ca 2.0)

Another vote for brat rear wheels. Quite soft like the hornet, straight fit, easy to get hold of, cheap and perfect on tarmac. I used to run em back in the day.

I have picked up some super fighter white wheels and tires, hopefully these should be ok and give a few more tyre options. Will post a pic of them fitted, hopefully they will look good.

Ok so my new wheels arrived today and I have tired to fit them, however it seems the hornet shafts are to wide to go through the hole in the hex and super fighter wheel...

Is that normal? I am guessing its a case of drilling out the holes? Does anyone know the correct size I need to drill too?

Thanks

Well my hex adapters arrived today so I fitted my new wheels tonight, I kinda like it. It looses a little of the retro look but reminds me of the tam tec hornet.

Oh now I gotta get me a set for my kid's Hornet, we also run in the street and those wheels should give me a lot more tire options. Thanks for sharing the pics

No problem, the rear tyres are exactly the same outer diameter just with a much flatter profile while the front are quite a bit larger. I am hoping this might help when running as the standard fronts tend to find the pot holes so these may help smooth that out.

You'll find that the softer original tires effectively form part of the suspension, and unfortunately with lower profile rubber the car will bounce around more on rougher ground and expose the poor suspension travel, especially at the rear.

But for on road, it will handle better.

I run Falcon/Striker front wheel/tires which are a bit smaller diameter, and the rubber on these lasts very well on road and concrete.
