Very little turned up when I did an Internet search on the motor... I figure it would be a very nice addition to a runner for about the same price as a GT-Tuned motor, or a Super Stock _Z type.

If you want to try Howes Models it is best to call them and ask for a guy called Nick. 01865 848 000.

I was actually due a £75 refund from them and have just ordered 3! I only need 1 of them so am happy to pass the other 2 along to TC members at cost. PM me if you want 1 or 2.

specially machined commutator,

cast alloy end case,

very tight tolerances in manufacture.

Adjustable brush timing.

new powerful ceramic magnets

Motor Specification:

Voltage 6v - 8.4v.

Max wattage: 190.

RPM max efficiency: 22,500 (7.2v).

Current drain at best efficiency: 10.3 amps.

Torque at best efficiency:250 gram/cm

All so lists, that the motor should be run in for 2 hours with no load (stopping if it gets too hot) with a 3v battery

Nice find with these MFA motors. Thing is though, although cosmetically they look like a Technigold, when comparing the specs they look closer to a Dynatech 01R? Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

So, what's the story with these motors? Any good? Garbage? Comparable to the Technigold? Technituned? Technipower?

Anyone installed in it a car yet and compared it with other motors?

Specs are great, but how about some real world testing and reports from the field.

The real Technigold was :

Torque at best efficiency ............... 430g.cm (7.2V)

RPM at best efficiency .................. 19,000 (7.2V)

Current drain at best efficiency .... 14A (7.2V)

...according to the original Technigold manual inside my box, and I assume that this was all at 0 degrees timing. Thing is, these days even a 380 sized can brushless can perform as well it seems ;-

...as long as the rotor can stay bonded to the shaft LOL. I still adore the Technigold though. I have 2 of them in great condition and a NIB condition box. How come Tamiya couldn't re-release the Avante / Egress with one though? I mean it's only 28 quid when the kit was a whole load of money! And the motor is apparently still available from Mabuchi!

From MFA's data on the "Technigold" 'substitute' motor RX-15, it says ;-

Nominal Voltage: 7.2V constant

Operating Range 6.0-8.4V

RPM (AT NO LOAD) : 22,500

Current (AT NO LOAD): 2.4A

RPM (AT MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY): 15,600

Current (AT MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY): 10.3A

...these figures are rather different than for the Technigold. Either someone has made a mistake or the figures are measured at the wrong voltage or the motor is not the same wind as the original Technigold. Maybe someone could contact Mabuchi and MFA and see what they have to say about it. For fun I just contacted Keda, Leopard and HobbyWing and asked them for graphs / simulation for their 13T 3000KV 380 rotor 540 can sized motor that I bought for my Sand Scorcher, I thought it was interesting to compare it to the original Technigold.
