As you know I got an 'Lunchie' for Christmas, and with the dust of festivities settled but more importantly my RC area is back to how it should be I decided that as my Novafox was almost done I would get on with some of the mods I have planned :)

Using the CVA top mounts you get in the kit along with stainless fastenings from stores :)

These are the damper units I am fitting Absima Alu sets from MotorsportUK

The ride height is about 5mm lower (no weight) using the 75mm shocks advised by MSUK so will lower the COG a little ;)

Whilst the gearbox was out it was time to fit the bearing kit and Sport Tuned motor :D

lunchbox_10.jpg

lunchbox_11.jpg

Ready to split the gear case

lunchbox_12.jpg

lunchbox_13.jpg

Bearings ready for the gearbox, forgot the fifth one for the photo DOH!

lunchbox_14.jpg

Bearings fitted

lunchbox_15.jpg

Standard screws swapped out for stainless

lunchbox_16.jpg

lunchbox_17.jpg

Standard screws (left) stainless goodness (right)

lunchbox_18.jpg

All the standard screws taken out have been swapped out for stainless :)

Can anyone spot the deliberate mistake :blink::blink:

lunchbox_22.jpg

I am so glad when I mess up I got one of these for Christmas ;)

lunchbox_23.jpg

All back together and the right way round this time

lunchbox_24.jpg

Same as the fronts Absima Alu dampers, and the little packet from the kit for the CVA top mounts

lunchbox_25.jpg

All the stainless fastenings ready for the job

lunchbox_26.jpg

Top mounts done

lunchbox_27.jpg

Back together... Almost

lunchbox_28.jpg

As I had to remove the ball end I decided to carefully through-screw the lower mounting screw so i could pop a washer and nyloc on the other side for a strong joint

lunchbox_29.jpg

Last but not least front wheel bearings

lunchbox_30.jpg

Fitted

I will get some better pictures of the truck back on it's wheels but the light was so bad all the shots I took after this were awful.

I am also going to do some other mods as this will be my runner lunch box such as third rear shock possibly etc. But this will do for now ;)

I love it! And the shock mod!

I see where you got the shocks, but where can I get those mounts? You mentioned they came with the rere Lunchbox? I guess I could try to find that parts bag on eBay?

Funny... I had no idea they listed all my neighboring cities on the back. (Inglewood, Hermosa Beach, Signal Hill etc). I also noticed on the Vintage San Scorcher some decals about Southern CA. Oh and on the Vintage Clodbuster it mentions "White Lightening Inc. Manhattan Beach"

Was Tamiyas American base here in Southern California?

They come in a little bag along with the screws etc for upgrading to a Tamiya CVA setup. I think I still have the rest of the back etc. once I am at the bench I will dig it out and rake a photo ;)

Not sure about Tamiad US base you would need a proper Tamiya expert to answer that  : lol:

Being a vanessa lover with a yellow box art and a gold edition ,I'm a fan of yours also I like the shock mod

I've gone for the rear ally wheel hex huds on mines as the plastic ones perished sitting on the shelf.

I will be doing the allt body mounts soon then the shocks will follow

Decided to get my new aluminium body mounts on to day :)

lunchbox_35.jpg

Off with the old (well old new  )

lunchbox_36.jpg

These will go into stores

lunchbox_37.jpg

I tried a test fit with replacement stainless self tappers but the mounts weren't that secure so I have decided to through-bolt them with stainless M3 socket heads ;)

lunchbox_38.jpg

The next problem was the new post would not sit level on the tub when the holes were in-line

lunchbox_39.jpg

This was because the slot milled into the underside is round at the end where the bit stops, whilst the mouldings on the tub are square. Thus make the mount sit proud

lunchbox_40.jpg

With the mount in place I pushed it down on to the plastic...

lunchbox_41.jpg

...This then created witness marks...

lunchbox_42.jpg

...Which I could then cut with a scalple :)

lunchbox_44.jpg

Perfect fit :D

lunchbox_43.jpg

I cut a nice tight M3 thread where the self tapper used to be but decided to have Nylocs on the end for more strength

lunchbox_45.jpg

lunchbox_46.jpg

Finished :D

Looking good matey, I really wanted to start mine today but my back has flared up making it uncomfortable to sit down for long.

Ah mate, hate it when backs give you grief, mine gives my reminders not to push it and the cold damp weather doesn't help,

Even worse when you can't start a new build!!! :(

Yep it was the cold that got me today, ended up in a garage for three hours and by the time I got home could hardly walk :(

Hopefully might get it started tomorrow :)

i am sorry to say this but your lunchbox wouldnt pass a MOT your body mounting isnt up to standards.

the bolt should be 2mm through the nyloc nut to work properlly :)

ps if the 2mm bit is wrong please excuse me its 15 years since i was involved doing MOT's.

i like those shocks look a lot better than the originals.

Thanks mate :)

You have opened yourself wide open possibly. I know at least three MOT testers, one of which I may be seeing next week :P:P:P:ph34r:
